Zola Work Permit Decision Expected on Friday
By Liam McMullen
June 25 2008
Tranmere forward Calvin Zola will reportedly find out this Friday if he has been given the green light to complete his move to Crewe Alexandra after the proposed move was held up in recent weeks by his need for a new work permit. A six figure fee and a three year contract is believed to have been agreed.

Zola Work Permit Decision Due on Friday

Finally after a long wait Tranmere Rovers and Crewe Alexandra are set to find out this Friday whether Calvin Zola's proposed move to Crewe will be finalised after both clubs already agreed a fee for the Congolese striker.

Zola's move to Crewe has been delayed by government red tape but the decision from the Home Office is expected to be this Friday as to whether the 23 year-old will be given a new work permit allowing his move to Crewe.

If Zola is awarded his new work permit it is reported he will be signing a three year contract at Gresty Road and will join up with his new team mates for pre-season training by the end of next week.

Zola has missed a lot of games during his time for Rovers due to him having problems with his visa in the past and also a number of injuries. When given the chance he has always given 100 percent for Rovers and seems to scare centre halves with his height and his valuable pace which will be missed by Rovers.

Zola Profile

Zola Could be A Crewe Player by Friday

During his time at Rovers Zola has not been very prolific in front of goal scoring just 16 goals during his 4 seasons at the club.

Recently Crewe Alexandra Technical Director Dario Gradi commented on his desire to capture Zola...

"Our number one target is Calvin Zola and that has always been the case.  We feel he is the big one that will make a difference to us.  We hope that will be resolved in the next fortnight when we will be asked to attend a hearing over his work permit application."

"He is keen to come here and we remain optimistic that he will be joining us for pre-season training.  Of course, any deal is subject to him getting the work permit. That appears the only stumbling block and we hope it will be resolved in our favour."

Total-Tranmere would like to wish Calvin Zola all the best for the future if he gets rewarded with a new work permit and would like to thank Calvin for his 100% effort he gave in during his time in a Rovers shirt.

Stay tuned at www.total-tranmere.co.uk to hear whether Zola will complete his move this Friday.

Good price for him but now we have no height or real pace upfront, and no other option as I feel Moore and Greenacre are too similar. I really hope Ronnie can find a suitable replacement, and not some journeyman striker looking for a last wage.

If we are going to spend (which we may not), we have to spend in that area over any other in my opinion (assuming that at least McLaren stays).

Like I said on the other thread, good business by the Club really!
