Rovers to Host Pre-Season Premiership Opposition

Tranmere have today confirmed their full friendly list for pre-season and as well as the usual local away trips to non-league sides, they also face Premiership and Championship opposition at home in the final build up tothe 2008/09 season which begins on August 9th this year.
 

Rovers to Host Premiership Opposition 

Tranmere Rovers today announced their full list of pre-season friendlies with the biggest of them being a home game against Premiership side Bolton Wanderers in late July.

Total Tranmere had already reported a number of the pre-season games but we can now provide with you a full list of pre-season opponents after it was officially announced by the Club today.

As already reported, Tranmere begin their season preparations with a short away trip to Cammell Laird FC on Saturday 12th July before visiting other local non-league sides in the shape of Heswall and Marine and Southport during the following ten days.

Saturday 26th July sees Rovers travel north for their now annual pre-season encounter with League Two side Morecambe.

The pre-season campaign ends with two home matches in five days, firstly facing Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday 29th July at 7.45pm and then facing Blackpool at Prenton Park on the following Saturday, the 2nd August which is a week before the start of the new season..

Gary Megson's Bolton side, who also played at Prenton Park last summer, finished 16th in England's top division last season and their squad features a number of well known players including Jussi Jaaskelainen, El Hadji Diouf, Kevin Nolan, Kevin Davies and Ian Goodison's Jamaican international team mate, Ricardo Gardner.

Speaking to the Official Tranmere Rovers Website this morning, Manager Ronnie Moore said:

"Bolton gave us a very good test last summer and I am happy to welcome them back to Prenton Park . They have some very talented players and will provide us with the standard of opposition we need before the new season starts."

"I'm grateful to Gary Megson for agreeing to play us once again and look forward to the game."

The full list of pre-season friendlies is as follows:

Sat 12th July - Cammell Laird (A) - 3.00pm
Weds 16th July - Heswall (A) - 7.00pm
Sat 19th July - Marine (A) - 3.00pm
Tues 22nd July - Southport (A) - 7.30pm
Sat 26th July - Morecambe (A) - 3.00pm
Tues 29th July - Bolton Wanderers (H) - 7.45pm
2nd August - Blackpool (H) - 3.00pm

In addition to these games, it has been reported that the Youth and Reserve Teams will play a number of pre-season games in North Wales with two already being confirmed by the Welsh Clubs themselves as follows:

Sat 12th July - Holyhead Hotspur (A) - 3.00pm

Wed 30th July - Prestatyn Town (A) - 7.45pm
