Chris Greenacre – “The Fans Were Fantastic”
By Deadly Submarine May 12 2008
As the players prepare for their summer holiday breaks, Chris Greenacre took time out to speak to the Tranmere Rovers Official Website and gave his views on the fans, the season as a whole and the effect that the loss of Davies and Shuker had on the strikers.

Greenacre – “The Fans Were Fantastic”

As we enter the first week of the close-season and the players head-off to many far flung destinations on their holidays, Rovers striker Chris Greenacre took time out to speak to the Official Tranmere Rovers Website about his thoughts on the season just ended.

Greenacre told Tranmere Rovers Official Website..............

"In the end we weren't quite good enough to get in the Play Offs.  The lads are bitterly disappointed we didn't get in.  When you look back over the season there are odd results where you think we should have won or drawn and that's what is disappointing."

"There were loads of positives from the season.  It was another year of a settled team playing together, and the longer you've got that the better it is.  We recruited two or three good players and hopefully that's the base of good things to come next season."

"The fans were fantastic.  At Leeds I was on the bench and the away support was brilliant.  I got goose bumps every time we went forward.  At Bradford they were fantastic again. The fans have been so positive for us and hopefully they can continue that next season."

Greenacre

Despite only scoring 14 goals this season, Greenacre was still Rovers' top scorer, making it the third time in a row he has achieved this feat and the first Tranmere player to do so since John Aldridge.  Speaking of that achievement, Greenacre added...........

"I'm pleased I finished top scorer again as that is something you set out to do every season.  From a personal point of view I missed Chris Shuker and Steve Davies and their directness. That's not saying against Shane Sherriff who came in and has done really well on the left, but when I've looked back at my goals over the last season and the one before there hasn't been as much ammunition as before."

Greenacre ended by speaking about his close season plans and by looking towards the pre-season campaign in July.......

"I usually have about a week off of doing nothing and then I play as much golf as I can!  I'll go on holiday and then start to focus on pre-season.  I don't look forward to pre-season anyway, but I dread it here.  It's the hardest pre-season I've done anywhere.  The days are gone where you can come back two or three stone overweight."

This interview with Chris Greenacre first appeared on the Official Tranmere Rovers Website.

Thats right, lets abuse our top scorer for the past 3 seasons, and no doubt next season! And what for?? because he's commending us fans.

14 goals with barely any good service is decent.

It's a shame Chris ain't the fastest of players or he'd of had 20+ prob!

Shame he misses free-headers and shots from 10 yards as well!

I agree that Greenacre hasn't done too badly this season considering.

I guess we are judging him on the seasons that have gone before when he has been more prolific, but taking this season on it's own and the reduced service he has done OK.

As Matt says, he has missed chances that you may have expected him to put away in the past but that could be down to confidence I suppose - who knows!

I think it could be as simple as he has had a dip in form. Nothing extravagant and nothing which will be long lasting. A good pre-season, somoe new team mates and I am sure he will be sharp.

At the "tender" age of 30 hes obviously not going to be the player he was 5-6 years ago but he has experience and that experience is the key to Greenacres games. In past seasons he knew where the net was with the service. This year without the likes of Shukes and Davo he has struggled and therefore has had to create/work for himself. I believe he hasn't had a brilliant season but his work rate is second to none and hopefully with service next year he will have 20+ goals clawing us up to the play offs.

Tranmere for 2008 masters!

i cant help thinking this comment is just there to try and win over the fans! i for one, (perhaps pretty unfairly) have lost faith in him and dont think he is the man to get us up! the fans were poor this season in my opinion and i cant help but question his intentions in making this comment!

i admit i wasnt very loyal with away games but the loudest chant i heard all year was ''he used to be shite, but now he's alright, walkin in a zola wonderland!''

It's Ian Moore who is the poorer of the two and his addition has only limited our options upfront, in my opinion

your right matt, yet not a word has been said on here about ian, i barely saw him touch the ball in his last handful of games. Greenacre had a reasonabley slow season yet still scored more than 80 odd % of our divisions strikers. were lucky enough to of had 20 goal strikers in the past so we may have pretty high expectations... i just think your all being a little unfair on chris to be honest, after all he's done so far for us...

Look at Zola, he had a sh1te season too, injured half of it as usual, though scored a few more an showed improvement now he appears to be looking at other clubs and may be thinking of moving away..... theres loyalty for ya, but lets slag Greenacre off for commending our fans!!

I'd get rid of Zola and moore. bring someone new and and when Curran gets his chance i'd give him it, upfront though not out wide.. also if davo doesn't leave, lets not forget he's been a striker all his life, 2 decent months out of a season and a half doesn't make him ryan giggs, maybe he could do a job up front?

I would agree with getting rid of both Moore and Zola!
