Northampton Town Match Snippets

Sixfields
By Deadly Submarine May 4 2008
Total Tranmere reporter Deadly Submarine gives you a brief summary of yesterdays game away at Northampton Town. Rovers lost the game 2-1, with Chris Greenacre scoring Rovers goal, which could of been a contender for goal of the season had the award not been given out last week!
Northampton Town Match Snippets

 Northampton 2 – 1 Tranmere

Weather Report

A sunny day, as usually seems to be the case on the final day of the season which made the fancy dress wearers that little bit warmer for the game.

Crowd

5,088 were inside the Sixfields Stadium for a meaningless game for both sides in which the two teams were really just battling to see who finished ahead of each other in the final League Standings.

Referee Watch - Gavin Ward (Surrey)

Yet another terrible game from the hapless Mr Ward who seems to have something in particular against Tranmere in his first season in he football League.  The ridiculous second booking of Goodison was made worse by the failure to book Northampton players and in particular Hubertz for a second time - 3/10

Best Moment

Had I seen it, then Greenacre’s goal would have been the best moment but I missed it so my best moment of the day was getting Paul McLaren’s match shirt after the game!

Funniest Moment

I think the chanting of the Youth/Reserve Teams names in the Stand alongside us, followed by “Driver give us a wave” to the Team Coach Driver was probably the highlight. Or was it the four clowns in fancy dress?

Tranmere Man of the Match

Andy Taylor – Robbie Stockdale was definitely a contender until his hamstring injury forced him off around the hour mark but for me Andy Taylor was his usual consistent self and deserves a mention.

Connections

There were no connections today between the two sides today.

Rovers Fans

The less said about the Rovers Fans in this game the better really.  They got behind the team with their usual songs but the infighting during the game and the sickening pitch invasion afterwards marred an otherwise great atmosphere and was a disgrace to the Club.

Summary

This defeat that dropped Rovers to a final position of 11th was disappointing to say the least but the performance deserved at least a draw and the sending off of Ian Goodison didn’t help our chances of getting back into the game.

Entertainment Value

The game was played like the end of season, meaningless affair it was really.  There were some decent chances for both sides and a decent banter between the supporters. 5/10

Yeah, although by the sounds of it we'll probably appeal if we can!

He was sent off for nothing imo, as i think i stated another post.
The ref' had a rush of stupidity really, all he needed to do was speak to the players and say the game is nearly over calm yourselves down, Goodison already on a yellow did'nt deserve the second card as it was girly stuff from both players.
I would fully support your appeal.

Cheers for that Cobblers Mark!

I have since heard though that Goodison did raise his hands and having already been booked he was stupid if that was the case.

However I think we will appeal as referee Gavin Ward has been known before to have 'rushes of stupidity' as you put it Mark.

Goodison's first yellow card was a case of mistaken identity by the referee
