Northampton Town v Tranmere Rovers Match Preview
By Deadly Submarine May 2 2008
A look ahead to the final game of the season as Rovers travel to face Northampton Town at the Sixfields Stadium. Both sides have little more than pride to play for which could make for an entertaining encounter as the pressures of the season are lifted for this final match.

Northampton  Vs Tranmere

Coca-Cola League One at Sixfields Stadium

The final day of the season is upon us already and once again Rovers find themselves with nothing to play for after their hopes of a play-off place faded in the past few weeks after a run of poor form.

Despite this, a trip to the Sixfields, which has been a happy hunting ground in recent times for Rovers, is an excuse for dressing up in fancy dress and celebrating what has been an enjoyable season on the road with the Superwhite Army this season.

Earlier in the season, Rovers came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home to the Cobblers thanks to second half goals from Chris Shuker and Gareth Taylor although the game had much more of an impact on the rest of the season than most could have imagined as Steve Davies picked up what was thought at the time to be a season ending injury.

Last season at the Sixfields, Rovers triumphed 3-1 thanks to goals from Calvin Zola, Gareth Taylor and John Mullin's penalty.

Northampton have a had a decent second half to the season with Bayo Akinenwa and Paul Hubertz in great from upfront but they have only won two of their last six games although at home they have only lost once in their last six.

Rovers' recent home form has been nothing short of awful with four defeats and three draws pointing to the main reason why they have ultimately failed to make it into the play-offs.

Whether Ronnie Moore will try out a few not so regular players in this game remains to be seen but it's possible that John Achterberg could get his 300th appearance for the Club in goal at the expense of Danny Coyne.

If you're going to the game get behind the lads and enjoy it.  Let's make it a final day party atmosphere and hope for three points at the same time!

Link: Gavin Ward as Ref?

I saw the article on the Official Site about Ilderton and they obviously have that information from somewhere for it to be published but I just went with what the Football League Site says as usual!

I hope it's not Ward although Ilderton has a bad reputation too apparently!
