MikeyB interviews a Cobblers Fan ahead of the clash between Northampton Town and Rovers at the Sixfields Stadium this coming Saturday (3rd May.)
Mikey: What is your name, age and for how long have you supported Northampton?
Nathan: My name is Nathan Smith but most people call me Smithy. Im 16 years old and have supported the Cobblers since I was a little boy. From the age of six I think. Not too sure.
Mikey: Best moment supporting Northampton?
Nathan: Going to Wembley and beating Swansea (the welsh) in injury time, from a re-taken free kick!
Mikey: Worst moment supporting Northampton?
Nathan: Probably going into administration in the early 2000's. If not that, definitely losing to Peterbrough two seasons ago at home. No one likes losing to their rivals.
Mikey: Who is your all-time favourite Northampton player.
Nathan: My all-time favourite Cobblers player is either Scott McGleish or Ian Sampson. Scott was a class player for us and should still be playing for us. I went mental when we sold him to Wycombe last season.
Ian Sampson is now our assistant manager. Bought from Sunderland, the lad is a living legend at NTFC. He was an awesome defender and he had an eye for goal as well.
Mikey: Who would you say is Northampton‘s "One to Watch"?
Nathan: I would say it has to be Giles Coke. Bought from Mansfield in the Summer, he made his debut in January after picking up a nasty injury whilst at Mansfield. He is one for the future and has one hell of a shot. Great player and will go onto better things.
Mikey: Do you have any youngsters to look out for?
Nathan: Yes we do, Giles Coke and Mark Bunn. Coke is a awesome act, and Bunn is currently being scouted by Middlesborough, Bolton and Man City. I think clubs will bid for Bunn in the summer as he is the best keeper in League One. It's going to be hard to keep hold of him but he's a very good goalkeeper.
EDITORS NOTE: Even better than Coyne?!?!
Mikey: What do you fear could go wrong this season?
Nathan: With NTFC over-achieving this season, I don't fear anything now. Probably the thing I fear the most is if one of our players pick up a terrible injury against Tranmere on Saturday, which rules him out for 9 months or more. A Top 10 finish would be lovely but it would be even better if we could pip Tranmere to 8th place.
Mikey: Which player would you personally pay to leave the club?
Nathan: I wouldn't even pay Joe Burnell to leave the club. I would strangle him first and then tell him to bugger off. He's a League Two player and this level is too high for him. Isn't being offered a new deal at the end of the season so its bye bye Joe :-)
Mikey: Is Stuart Gray the right man for the job?
Nathan: Yes, definitely. Stuart has done a terrific job for NTFC. Brought in some real quality and his loan signings have been amazing. A Top 10 finish this season is down to Gray. He has been superb. Quality manager.
Mikey: Which team do you most want to beat this season and if you have played them did you manage to beat them?
Nathan: Well I wanted to beat Luton Town mostly out of anyone this season because my best mate supports them. We played them three times this season and they beat us twice so that's not good news. However we got our own back last month with a fine 2-1 win at Sixfields.
Mikey: Most detested opposition player?
Nathan: Probably have to be Beckford for Leeds. Too big for his own boots and thinks he is better than he is. Really can't stand the bloke.
Mikey: Most admired opposition player?
Nathan: Jason Scotland for Swansea. He is a top striker and it will be hard for Swansea to keep him this summer. He's an excellent player and is by far the best player in this league.
Mikey: Where do you see Northampton finishing this season?
Nathan: 10th or 9th. That would be nice to see. Hopefully look onto playoffs for next season. Come on the Town!!
Mikey: Finally, your prediction for today's game?
Nathan: I'm going for a 2-1 Northampton win. Any team coming to Sixfields know it's a hard place to come and it has become a real fortress this season. I can see NTFC winning this one.
Mikey: Good luck for next season, and thank you very much for answering these questions, it is much appreciated.
