POTS Winner
By MikeyB April 28 2008
It has been confirmed tonight that Ian Goodison has won the official Tranmere Rovers Player of the season award. Below are all the winners of the other awards and a full report on the night will be posted on this website in the forthcoming days so keep checking back to find out exactly what happened!
Player of the Season Awards News

At tonight’s Player of the Season Awards, Ian Goodison was crowned the worthy winner of the Fans’ Player of the Season Award whilst the other awards were also determined as the night got into full swing.

A full report on the Player of the Season Awards Dinner will appear here on Total Tranmere tomorrow or on Wednesday but the list of Award winners from tonight will appear here as they are announced........

Player of the Season – Ian Goodison - The centre back has been a rock this year and the defence has looked very shaky without him. Although he is well into his 30's the defender is still going strong and it is very rare he is beaten.

Young Player of the Season – Andy Taylor - having previously joined Rovers' on loan, Andy signed permanently in the January transfer and became an essential part of the Rovers team. He has made some excellent tackles aswell as scoring a great goal away at Crewe. He is also good while dribbling the ball.

Goal of the Season – Antony Kay Vs Carlisle (Home on Boxing Day). An absolute superb strike from defender Kay, having recieved the ball on his weak foot at the egde of the box from a McLaren corner, Kay chipped the ball over a Carlisle defender and hit a volley with his right foot which fired right into the top corner - had it been in the Premiership they'd still be talking about it!

Players Player of the Season – Paul McLaren - Paul has been terrific this season in the middle four - he has many assists to his name (the most in League One) and has been essential to most of Rover's goals, especially in the absence of wingers Steve Davies and Chris Shuker.

McLaren

Players Young Player of the Season – Steven Jennings - The young midfielder has impressed many this season and drastically improved over last summer. This season he has been very influential in the Tranmere midfield and is often controlling the middle four aswell as breaking up attacks.

Les Parry Award – Unfortunately this award could not be confirmed as Les Parry was ill on the night, however a special contribution award will go to Les for 800 consecutive games as Rovers' physio, of which most have been in shorts!

Keep checking back over the next few days for a full report of the night by site reporter Mike Jackson!

What a fantastic night from start to finish from the getting of free signed pictures of me with my favourite players to take home, a great three course meal, a table football competition against a pair of Rovers Players and a great Comedian - Shaun Styles!

I will be going again next season without doubt!

I was surprised (along with several others I spoke to) to see Goodison scoop the main Award ahead of McLaren and Jennings but at least the two central midfielders both won awards too and it really was a top night - so glad I went!

Les Parry was too ill to do his own Award tonight (letting Shukes and Davo off the hook) but he then got a shock when Lorraine presented him with a Special Contribution Award for 800 consecutive games as Tranmere Physio!

Thanks a lot to Mikey for breaking the news and as Mikey says a full report on the evening will follow this week.

At the end I got to chat with Les Parry whose boots are sponsored by Total Tranmere and he said I should have mentioned our sponsorship to him earlier in the season and he said next season he would try and get me some Tickets for one of the Suites!

You beter take the tickets and use them well for your hard work on this site Mike. They are the kind of perks you should get from putting the effort you do into the site.

It is good that they have spread the awards. IMO the players player award tells ou more than the other awards and it shows the CM's contributions this season. If people had known, I think that Jenno would have won young player. They just didn't know about the age limit. Good Taylor has been rewarded so soon though.

Taylor looked shocked to win it to be honest and said when he was on stage how shocked he was.

Like you say though James, a nice even spread of winners on the night.

Taylor deserved it,i would have put Jennings as POTS Goodison was great, but at times he looked shaky & got sent off needlessly, while Jenno has been consistent all season,I'm made up for Les,he is a true legend & i always look at his column first when i get a programme,i also think a lot of people forget Danny Coyne's contribution,he has been great & kept Achto out of the side

Ian Goodison's brief speech was brilliant as were the few words Les did speak.

I won't say anymore on it until my article on the night is written in time for tomorrow!

made up with them.

i voted for that goal, voted for andy too. whilest mclaren got my official vote goodo done enough, and i was happy to see paul got his reward from the players.

the last time i voted for pots and they never won when they should have was rankine, and he too got players, so it's good they get recognition that is deserved wether it be from the fans or the players.
