Weather Report

A dry and mild day in Birkenhead made a nice change from the recent cold and wet weather that Rovers fans have had to experience of late for Tranmere home matches.

Crowd

5,842 were inside Prenton Park with a decent number travelling up from Essex to hopefully see their side make further progress towards and automatic promotion place.  The home Kop was sparsely populated to say the least but there was a decent support in the Main Stand.

Referee Watch

Graham Laws (Tyne and Wear) - Had very little in the way of big decisions to make and got his decisions spot on when he had to.  An easy enough game for Mr Laws to referee but he did it well.- 9/10

Best Moment

The goal from Antony Kay that turned out to be the winning strike was probably the best and most memorable moment of this game.

Tranmere Man of the Match

Steven Jennings - Another excellent performance in the centre of the field for Tranmere's most improved Player of the season Steven Jennings.  He held up the ball and played others in when required.

Opposition's Main Man

Adam Barratt - Barratt had a decent game for Southend whilst the goalkeeper was also called upon on a number of occasions.

Connections

Former Rovers loanee Simon Francis started at right-back for the visitors but there were no former Shrimpers appearing in the Rovers side.

Southend United Fans

A decent turn out for such a long journey from the Shrimpers Fans and to see so many different fancy dress outfits including the Teletubbies, Yogi Bear, Krusty the Clown and some of the seven dwarfs was a great site for the visitors final away game of the season.

Summary

Not the best game in terms of entertainment and despite some decent looking attacks by Southend, the Rovers defence rarely seemed troubled and Danny Coyne had very little to do during the game.

Personally, I still had doubts with regard to Tranmere's ability to win either of their remaining two matches but now they have won one and dented Southend's recent good run in the process, there seems no reason why Ronnie Moore's men can't go on to win the final game of the season away at Northampton Town next Saturday.

Entertainment Value

Not the most exciting game ever which considering the fact that Southend still had much to play for was something of a surprisebut Rovers got the critical goal they required and asaw the game out comfortably without much need to entertain - 5/10

I think 5/10 may have been harsh (I'd had several pints when I wrote it) but it wasn't the best game in the world lol.

I'm just happy we won though!(Sm7)

RAPPERS - Avoid having to say 'know what I'm sayin' all the time by actually speaking clearly in the first place.
