Tranmere Rovers v Southend United Match Preview
By Deadly Submarine April 25 2008
A look ahead to Saturday’s final home match of the season as Rovers take on Southend United who are already guaranteed a play-off place in May. Rovers have little to play for but could still have an outcome on the race for promotion as the play-off placings are still yet to be decided.

Tranmere R Vs Southend U

Saturday 26th April 2008 - Kick-Off 3.00pm

Coca-Cola League One at Prenton Park

By Deadly Submarine

The time seems to have flown by, especially since we entered 2008 but tomorrow afternoon Rovers head into their final home match of the season with nothing to play for except perhaps the restoration of some pride after three successive defeats.

Against a side as in form as the Shrimpers are, that looks like a tall order for Ronnie Moore and his men with Southend unbeaten since the 12th February when they went down 2-1 at Millwall.

Earlier in the season of course it was a different story as then in form Tranmere won 2-1 at Southend's Roots Hall Stadium to move to the summit of League One thanks to goals from Ben Chorley and Gareth Taylor.

After that move to the dizzy heights, things never really steadied and the ship slowly began to sink hence Rovers' need to get back some pride on Saturday.

Southend sit four points off an automatic promotion place with six points still to play for and they are already guaranteed a play-off place.  However, who they meet in those all important end of season games depends on their result at Prenton Park and others around League One both this week in next week's final round of matches.

Despite the run of three straight defeats, Rovers have lost twice at home in their last six games, winning the other four so nothing is impossible.

Rovers are likely to come up against former loanee Simon Francis who is currently playing for the Essex Club.

If you're going to the game get behind the lads and enjoy it!

Either we wont even turn up and will get trashed. Or Ronnie will put out a few of the fringe players and the younger players looking to establish them selves and we will not do too badly.

What team does everyone want to see? Not what do they think it will be.

I'd like to see Curran start because Moore and Greenacre have been@#$%&in recent weeks, and I'd like to see Ahmed given a go, assuming he's fit again. Would also hope to see Gornell AND Holmes AND Jones on the bench, if not Jones starting ahead of the clearly shite or clearly unfit Sherriff and Shuker

also i woukd be good 2 c ahmed get a first home league appearance in a trfc shirt.
Hope 2 c gornell get a run out aswell.

Might also be nice to see Achterberg get a game as well maybe?

It would be great to see him playing in front of the Prenton Park crowd.
