Moore – “We Want to Finish as High as We Can"
By Deadly Submarine April 21 2008
In his Monday press conference which followed the 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield on Saturday, Rovers Boss Ronnie Moore spoke of the failures of this season and the plans that are in place for next season as he looks to get Rovers off to a good start to the new campaign in August.

Moore – “We Want to Finish as High as We Can”

In his Monday press conference, Rovers Boss Ronnie Moore admitted his side have fallen a number of goals short of success this season but insisted that plans are already in place for next season.

Speaking to Tranmere World, Moore said..............

"We've got two games and we want to finish as high as we can.  We want to finish well, there's no doubt about that.  We knew the three games we've had this month would be tough, but we've been the best side three times and lost, that's the frustrating thing."

"Like I said on Saturday, we've fallen twelve goals short of the results that would have taken us into the Play Offs, and mainly away from home.  You can't score 19 goals away from home, that really needs to be addressed.  Last year we were too adventurous away from home, this season we've been too conservative."

"We need to score more from set plays, because we do work hard at them.  Without doubt we're closer than we were 12 months ago.  The squad of players we've got, when everyone is fit, is as good as anybody's.  We've just not had the rub of the green.  We've had too many players sent off.  It's so important that players are disciplined."

Davies, Steve

Steve Davies - One of Nine Players Out of Contract

"We've got to look to finish as high as we can.  Southend will be coming here with hopes of automatic promotion, so they'll want to win.  We've got to be up and at them.  We don't want to end the season with five defeats.  We want to beat Southend and finish on a high in our last home game."

"We've got nine players out of contract, five of them senior players.  We've spoken to the agents and we are still talking to them.  We're also looking at players for next year in case players we've offered contracts don't take them.  We've sat down and had a look at the players who are available and we're making phone calls."

Ronnie Moore's comments first appeared on Tranmere World through the Official Tranmere Rovers Website.

I really don't get this. Moore says there are only five first teamers out of contract, but I count six (Sherriff, Jenno, Mullin, Stockdale, Davies and McLaren). Does that mean one has been signed up already?

Maybe by using the word 'senior' he isn't counting Davies perhaps?

I don't know if that's the case though!

A fella who was sacked from the Waltzer at Blackpool Pleasure beach is taking them to court.

He's claiming Funfair dismissal.

I thought Jenno signed on a few months ago.

maybe he means as in proper first team whcih rules mullin out. coz the rest of them would all be in our first 11 bar him.

I'm not too sure he would just leave a player out Mark, unless perhaps Mullin is retiring.

I've counted the following:

Six senior players in contract; Davies, Jennings, McLaren, Stockdale, Sherriff and Mullin

Four youngsters out of contract; M. Jones, Holmes, Henry and Johnston

That either means he's had a miss-count (not a miss-carriage), one has already signed up or he is resigned to losing somebody, perhaps Davo

we'll either have already sorted a ontract out and it's just waiting for the summer to announce, or like you say he knows for sure were losing someone...

As for the title of post... they are some of the most depressing a football fan can see as it signals your season is over premiturely...

Exactly right SWS, which is why Fans have to learn that not every Club will have success every season. Yes we'd like it, we all would but it's about the reality of it I feel.

I heard a rumour that McLaren has signed a two year deal already (not sure if was put on here or on another site).

That's a great start to the summer if that's true in my opinion.
