Tranmere R Vs Notts Forest
Saturday 12th April 2008 - Kick-Off 3.00pm
Coca-Cola League One at Prenton Park
"It's not over until the fat lady sings" is the well known saying but surely now she must be clearing her throat and getting ready for action as Rovers' play-off hopes suffered not a fatal, but a very damaging blow following the 2-1 defeat at Walsall on Saturday afternoon.
Next up too is Nottingham Forest at Prenton Park, a team that since their relegation down to the third tier of English Football have been something of a bogey team for Tranmere having never lost to the Whites from the Wirral.
It has possibly never been more important that Rovers beat Forest but there is no doubt that it will be far from easy as Forest themselves fight to secure a play-off spot at the end of the season.
After the 1-1 draw at home to Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night, Forest Boss Colin Calderwood admitted that any chance Forest had of going up from League One automatically was now gone but his side will look to a good result at Tranmere as the catalyst for securing that all-important play-off place and a chance to go one better than their semi-final defeat to Yeovil last season.
It's fair to say that Forest can probably afford not to win the game but anything but three points for Rovers will virtually spell the end of their rapidly fading play-off hopes.
Earlier in the season at The City Ground, Forest ran out 2-0 winners against Rovers with second half goals from Junior Agogo and Nathan Tyson which ensured that Tranmere have still never won against Forest at the City Ground.
Tranmere go into the game in inconsistent form after losing at Bournemouth on Easter Monday, then winning against Swindon at home before losing away again last Saturday, this time at Walsall.
Forest have only lost one of their last six matches away from home and that was at automatic promotion chasers Doncaster Rovers a few weeks ago.
There is sure to be a good crowd from the East Midlands so let's hope the Rovers Fans also come out in force to get behind the team from the off!
Enjoy the Game!
Long term absentee Steve Davies made his long awaited comeback and played a full ninety minutes for the Reserves on Wednesday night but this game is likely to be too early for his comeback.
Ben Chorley is suspended after his red card at Walsall last week so it's expected that Antony Kay will return to the central defensive role alongside Ian Goodison,
