Tranmere R Vs Port Vale
Thursday 20th March 2008 - Kick-Off 7.45pm
Coca-Cola League One at Prenton Park
Thursday night football is about as rare as you can get unless you are in the UEFA Cup these days so a Thursday night match at Prenton Park will be one to remember in the future.
Rock bottom Port Vale are the visitors to Prenton Park for this rare outing and Rovers will be confident of a result against a team already seemingly destined for League Two football next season with six weeks of the season still to go.
It doesn't always work that way of course and with the possibility of a slightly increased crowd as a result of special half price offers for friends and family of season ticket holders, Rovers are still likely to underperform as they so often too when bigger crowds attend.
After their recent eight game unbeaten run ended, sparking a run of two straight defeats, Tranmere have again got back into the winning habit following a somewhat fortunate 3-1 home win against Hartlepool last Saturday.
That result came after a great 1-1 draw at League leaders Swansea City last Tuesday night despite not having the services of influential captain Ian Goodison for the game or indeed for the win over Hartlepool on Saturday.
Vale go into this game on the back of two decent results after a 2-0 away win at Crewe on Tuesday night and then a late equaliser on Saturday earned them a 3-3 draw against out of form Leeds United.
When the sides met earlier in the season just before Christmas, Vale could count themselves unlucky to be held to a 0-0 draw by Ronnie Moore's men as they created the better of the chances but failed to convert them.
With the rest of League One not playing until Friday or Saturday, a win would take Rovers into a play-off place so why not take advantage of the special ticket offer and bring a friend or family member to get behind the lads.
Ronnie Moore should be able to choose from a virtually full squad for this game with Steve Davies (knee) the only definite absentee.
Ian Goodison and Chris Shuker (both knee) are both in line for a place in the starting line-up after recovering from injury whilst Craig Curran has shaken off the flu and is also in contention.
Match Referee - Russell Booth (Nottinghamshire)
