Cold Again?
Oldham A Vs Tranmere R
Saturday 8th March 2008 - Kick-Off 3.00pm
Coca-Cola League One at Boundary Park
With just eleven games now remaining in the 2007-08 season, it is still very much all to play for both Tranmere and Oldham as Rovers Boss Ronnie Moore once again comes up against the team he left shortly before taking over the hot seat at Prenton Park.
After a relatively decent home record in recent weeks, Oldham came to grief at home to Hartlepool United on Tuesday night in front of a sub 4,000 crowd that was one of their lowest at Boundary Park for a League game for a number of years.
However, Tranmere also head into the game on the back of a 1-0 home defeat after their unbeaten run of eight games came to an end last Saturday against promotion chasing Doncaster thanks to an early strike from James Coppinger.
Tranmere last won at Boundary Park almost eleven years ago to the day of this forthcoming fixture when a brace from Ged Brannan either side of a Nicky Banger strike for the Latics, sealed a 2-0 win for Rovers.
In the eight games between the teams in Oldham since that day, Tranmere have lost four and drawn four including a heart breaking defeat on penalties in the now named Johnstone's Paint Trophy Area Semi-Final after a hard fought 1-1 draw after extra time.
Rovers looked good value for a draw last season until Gavin ‘The Flapper' Ward failed to catch a simple hoof ball forward and Chris Hall claimed the goal in a 1-0 that at the time sent Oldham top of the League on their way to the play-offs.
Despite it always being cold in Oldham, no matter what time of year you find yourself sitting in the vast away stand, there is usually a decent Rovers following and hopefully Saturday will be no exception as Ronnie Moore and his troops look to gain revenge for the 1-0 defeat inflicted by John Sheridan's men at Prenton Park back in November.
It's possible that Rovers will come up against a former employee in the shape of Reuben Hazell but Oldham's other former Tranmere player John Thompson is out injured and is unlikely to face the side he spent time on loan with last season.
Win or lose it's sure to be a good day out but all the better for a win so why not get down to Boundary Park on Saturday and cheer on Ronnie and the lads as we look to maintain our place in the play-off positions.
Enjoy the Game!
Steven Jennings is suspended for the second game of his three match ban after his sending off at Bristol Rovers a fortnight ago whilst Steve Davies and Chris Shuker (both knee) remained sidelined although Shuker is expected to be fit for first team action in a couple of weeks.
