A young goalkeeper, McWeeney signed for Tranmere from Leyton Orient for a small fee in the middle of the 2006/07 season. 

Already in possession of the number 13 shirt for the first team (mainly due to John Achterberg's unwillingness to hold the "unlucky" number), McWeeney has become the number three goalkeeper at Rovers after some impressive performances at reserve and youth level. 

Standing at well over six foot tall, McWeeney is a good shot stopper, especially for reaction saves, and kicker of the ball but at times appears to be glued to his goal line when crosses come into the box.
