The 19 year-old midfielder signed professional terms for Rovers in April 2006 and made his first team debut just a few weeks later on the final day of the 2005-06 season against Doncaster Rovers.

However, the change of Manager and the new signings that came with it saw him fail to make the first team at Rovers last season and he was loaned out to League Two side Shrewsbury Town in January, initially for three months but remaining there until the end of the season eventually.

Jones scored on his Shrewsbury debut and helped to fire the Shrews into the League Two play-offs before returning to Prenton Park for hopefully another crack at a first team place this time around.
