24 year-old midfielder Ahmed, joined Rovers in May 2007 on a two-year contract as Ronnie Moore's first summer signing of that year.

Ahmed started his footballing career as a youth player with his home-town team Bury and at the age of 14 he was snapped up by Manchester United's academy and remained there for the next two years.

At the age of 16 Ahmed made the transition from Lancashire to Yorkshire to join the youth ranks at Huddersfield Town and in 2003 he signed professional terms with the Galpharm Stadium Club.

His four seasons in Yorkshire were affected by injuries as he made just 21 appearances for the first team before being released in May 2007.  Following his release though, he was only a free agent for a little over two weeks before Ronnie Moore moved in to sign him.
