Sam 'Football Icon' Hurrell Gets Full Game

16 Points Clear?!?!?

January 15 2006
Football Icon winner Sam Hurrell started his first full game for the Academy yesterday, his first game since winning the competition and signing his professional contract with Chelsea for the rest of the 2005/06 season.

But it wasn't a good day for Sam nor the Academy as they lost 1-0 with the goal coming in the last minute. To make matters worse for the Academy, they had to play the last fifteen minutes with ten men after using all three substitutes and having young Lee Sawyer carried off with an injured knee.

The Academy also lost Michael Mancienne with a hamstring injury and he looks very doubtful for the Academy's FA Cup Youth tie against Brighton on Tuesday night. Not a very good end of the week for Michael either. Earlier this week he signed a full professional Chelsea contract on his 18th birthday.

Coach Brendan Rodgers who changed things around in preparation for Brighton said, "Overall it was a below par performance. We didn’t play with our normal tempo. We need to get that right on Tuesday night."

Team (4-2-1-3) Russell; Hutchinson, Cork (c), Mancienne (Sawyer), Hurrell; Bridcutt, Furman; Fernandes; F Ferreira, Watkins (Cummings), Sinclair (Bertrand).
