Carling Cup Geordies 0-2 Chelsea
By Blue Blood
November 11 2004
In what has been another great week for Chelsea. Firstly King John signs a new and revised deal which will keep him at the club for another 5 years and to make things even more secure JT reportedly said that he wants to stay at Chelsea for life. Then there was the news that JM,

although he has only been at the helm for five minutes, wants to extend his deal already. And then. Chelsea win through to the Quarter-Finals of the Carling Cup after beating Newcastle United at St James' Park last night 2-0 after extra time. And in the draw straight after, Chelsea were drawn away to our mighty rivals Fulham, who we play this coming Saturday, at Craven Cottage.

What a strange game last night. So much for the 'Geordie Roar' more like the 'Geordie Meow.' Where was the atmosphere? Was the home support frightened or scared of supporting their 'heroes.' For Newcastle after the result and disappointment of the game against Fulham, the last thing they needed was for the home crowd to remain pensive, nervous and quiet for most of the night. And what happened to the so-called United backlash that was widely reported. More like a lash back. It was great to hear non stop singing from the hardy band of Chelsea supporters high up in the stand to the left of the cameras. Many a time 'Carefree' swept around St James' Park. Always makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. CAREFREE.

Who cares?? I don't!! As a Chelsea fan all I care about is Chelsea winning, doing well and winning trophies. If we can play badly or without style like we did for the most part last night and still win games, who am I to complain. But if we can win playing with style, confidence and arrogance then we all get the Brucie Bonus.

Extra time goals from Eidersson with a crisp shot from outside the area, beating Given at his right post and a third goal in as many games from the legend in the making Arjen Robben, dribbling from the halfway line and cutting in before beating Given again. Of course had TIago not missed a sitter then extra time may not have been necessary.

Pleasing for King Carlo. In only his second competitive game of the season - 2 for 2 - clean sheets that is. Most of Newcastle's attempts at goal were comfortably

dealt with, as you would expect with a keeper of Carlo's class, but he did make a blinding first half save from Bernard, who incidentally scored his last goal against us a year ago last March.
