Now unless by some sort of improbable, impossible miracle and slip-ups by Newcastle and Tottingham to the magnitude of 10+ on the Richter scale and Chelsea win their last two league games, a certain goat-eating Senegalese, with two stunning goals at The Bridge last night, slammed the ajar CL door in Chelsea’s faces.
I have no complaints about the result last night. I don’t blame Bobby Di or Steady Eddie.
The blame for Chelsea’s worst league season since Abramovich took over lays firmly and squarely at the door of a certain Portugeezer who tried without success to rip the ‘heart’ out of Chelsea too quickly and tried to enforce his project too earnestly.
Bobby Di has done a magnificent job in turning Chelsea’s fortunes around.
Two Cup finals awaiting, two defeats in 17 odd games and most significantly knocking out the Champions League holders, Barcelona.
It has been well documented within these pages that Chelsea have had their fair share of luck and fortune in recent weeks.
Alas those traits abandoned the Blues as Newcastle arrived at the Bridge, well organised and well drilled after their 4-0 mauling at the DW last weekend, adding to the fact Papiss Cisse continued to score stunning and sensational goals to take his total to 13 since he joined United in January.
Perhaps Bobby Di’s rotation last night, was one rotation too many.
He made SIX changes from the team that defeated QPR 6-1 at the weekend and when you look at the substitutes bench, FIVE of the seven will very likely be in the FA Cup Final starting line-up on Saturday plus there is still David Luiz and Gary Cahill to come back.
