Arsenal Preview: U18s 1st Leg FA Youth Cup Final Rout

The U18s beat Blackburn Rovers U18s 4-0 in the first leg of the FA Youth Cup Final at Stamford Bridge last night with goals from skipper Nathanial Chalobah, a screamer from Lewis Baker and two from 16 year old sensation Islam Feruz. The second leg should be a formality at Ewood Park on May 9th where Chelsea can lift the trophy for the second time in three years.

The scoreline looks a little harsh on Rovers as they created a series of chances for themselves, but Jamal Blackman was superb in goal pulling off a couple of decent saves before Chelsea scored their first.

Nathan Ake (Ruud Gullit lookalike) will miss the 2nd leg as he is away on International duty with Holland and Feruz has been called up to Scotland’s U21 squad for a forthcoming friendly fixture.

One disturbing aspect of the night for me was Ron Gourlay’s lack of positiveness when asked about the future and progression of these boys into the first team.

He basically sidestepped the question and only spoke about Ryan Bertrand’s recent promotion.

Today the 1st team travel to the Emirates to get revenge for the 5-3 home defeat by Arsenal earlier on in the season, which for me, was the start of AvBs decline and only a win will do if Chelsea are to continue their chase for ‘Corrupt Cup’ qualification through the league.

Didier will be missing as will David Luiz through injury and Ivanovic continues his suspension.
