West Ham Preview: Hilario OUT, Turnbull IN

COME ON CHELSEA

March 12 2010
Hilario is out of tomorrow's must win game with a groin injury against The Hammers of Upton Park. Must win. Of course it is, even with a game in hand, we must maintain our presence at the top (well 2nd place) and hope Fulham and Hull City do us a favour. Well with the way this season has unfolded, anything is possible.

Not only will Hilario miss West Ham, it is extremely likely he will also miss Jose's return to Stamford Bridge with Inter Milan on Tuesday night in the second leg of the Champions League round of the last 16.

I am sorry to say, having watched Ross Turnbull in the reserves since he signed last Summer, he does not inspire me with confidence and I am sure there are many more Chelsea fans who feel the same.

Turnbull's reserve debut didn't get off to the best of starts, conceding four goals against Aston Villa at Griffin Park. He doesn't appear to command his area, he looks shaky on crosses - punching rather than catching - but and there is a but he is a capable shot-stopper.

As we all know Chelsea's defence was ripped apart by Money Citeh two weeks ago, redeeming themselves with a clean sheet last week in the FA Cup win over Stoke City with Alex being nominated as the player of the 6th round, but tomorrow the defence will have to work overtime to protect a 'uninspiring' Ross Turnbull.

It´s a catch 22 situation - He needs match time to gain confidence - so how does he get confident if he doesn´t play? If he gets injured then it would be the reserve keeper Rhys Taylor who would have to come on...

A bit worried about Tuesday night the occasion just might be a little bit too big for him i hope he keeps his nerve.

He will get a lot of support from us and i hope he gets the same from the defence i`m sure he will.
