January Transfer Rumour Round-up

So it’s that time again! January hasn’t been a particularly fruitful time in recent seasons to make signings given that normally the top signings or best prospects are committed with their clubs to “Corrupt Cup” Champions League football – however, circumstances may well force our hand this time around.

The FIFA driven ludicrous and downright biased negative slant towards our club has been taking  shape in an attempted and possibly pending transfer ban - this could well force our hand to strengthen whilst we can – fortunately, there are a few juicy targets available.

The Sun says that Abramovich could be ready to splash out £55million in January for Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero and defensive midfielder Jerko Leko of Monaco.  Apparently the club is prepared to pay upper-limits of £40m for Aguero and £15m on Leko.

Neither target has Champions League football for the remainder of the season and Abramovich won’t be ripped off.  If the transfer fees turn out to be to exorbitant then The Sun says a back-up list has already been drawn up of Ajax's Uruguay forward Luis Suarez, Roma's World Cup winner Daniele De Rossi and Everton starlet Jack Rodwell.

A “Chelsea source” (cough!) said:

"Abramovich has drawn up a list of options for the New Year.

"Atletico are asking silly money. If they don't get real Roman will switch to Suarez and try to do a deal with Ajax instead.

"It's not just strikers, though. Jerko is the one they are looking at to come in as a defensive midfielder, although De Rossi and Rodwell are also on the radar.

"So it should be a busy time because the desire is there, the money is there, the options are there."

With Drogba, Essien, Mikel and Kalou all away at the ACN for some matches in January and the possibility  that Ancelotti is not convinced about who should be given the responsibility of the bottom of the diamond position no chances are being taken.

Ancelotti did state earlier that we would not be in the market in January – it remains to be seen if this is a bluff.

Torres and Chelseas Michael Ballack battle for the ball

Elsewhere in the media that name Fernando Torres crops up again although I can’t see Benitez committing Hari-kari no matter how much the owners would like to get their mitts on a fat wad (that said, the club could more than afford to pay up his contract which he renegotiated last season with the Torres money if they really wanted shot of him!).

DZEKO celeb

Ajax's Luis Suarez and Wolfsburg young striker Edin Dzeko are also mentioned.  Dzeko had a prolific season at Wolfsburg and was tipped to come to Stamford Bridge last summer.

.

There’s no doubting Dzeko´s potential but with Sturridge ear-marked as part of our future surely that would mean selling Kalou? The squad could be getting crowded with forwards otherwise.

The Mirror and the Mail reckon that Real Madrid want Branislav Ivanovic to help alleviate the number of injured defenders in the treatment room at the Bernabeau.

Ivanovic has been very solid for us with Bosingwa out injured and can also play at centre-half – can’t see the club letting him go – unless there was a juicy carrot coming back the other way.

Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott wants to sign academy/reserve player Tom Taiwo on a permanent basis before his loan expires at the end of December.

"We hope to be able to make an announcement as soon as possible on all three of them but, at the moment, the talks are ongoing.

“The Chelsea people that we needed to talk to about Tom were all away at the Champions League draw.

"It should all be resolved soon one way or another, but we just have to be a little bit more patient."

On a final note West Ham have been offered ex-Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman from Paris Saint Germain as Carlton Cole is out until February.

Aguero:

"Chelsea are interested in me because they think I can play an important role for the team. And I think I fit with their style of play."

"Of course I watch the Premier League on TV and I think it is the best league in the world, along with the Spanish league."

"There are a lot of very good players but, right now, the top striker in the Premier League is without doubt, Drogba," he said. "After comes Fernando Torres, but Drogba is the best."

Ancelotti has admitted in the past he enjoys telling porkies to the press ...but this time around on transfers in January?:

Ancelotti said: I can tell you I will not be buying anybody in January. Absolutely no way.

I am willing to pay a forfeit if I do, even to run round the training ground naked!

Of course, there are coaches in Italy who say that you should never say anything is 100 per cent. You should always say 99.99 per cent.

But I am not changing my mind about the transfer window.

We have a lot of confidence in my strikers. Not only Drogba, not only Kalou, not only Anelka. Also Sturridge and Borini.

I have not asked for new players to my club. And Roman Abramovich hasnt asked me if I need any.

In my opinion, I think that we have good solutions internally even when we lose the African players.

If you have new players, maybe its a problem in February or March, when the others come back and are available. We dont need them in this moment, to have new players.
