The fee was set by a tribunal after the two clubs were unable to reach an agreement. Chelsea were offering 3m with City requiring at least 10m for the 19-year-old – Sky report that the fee is around 5m.

Sturridge began his football career at Aston Villa before moving on to Coventry and then eventually settling in City’s youth set-up.
He broke into the first team under Eriksson before Hughes took over, more recently scoring four in 10 starts of 26 appearances.
Now he will join up with the first team squad for pre-season next week.
