Chelsea reject Terry offer from persistent Man City

Manchester City have AGAIN made an approach for Chelsea and England captain John Terry. This is the third occasion that the Eastlands club have made an offer for Terry – this time around with an opening offer or between £25m and £30m according to The Guardian.

Yesterday Chelsea FC issued the following statement:

Chelsea Football Club can confirm it has completely rejected an offer from Manchester City for John Terry. It was made clear to City, for the second time following an approach last season, that we would not entertain any conversation on the subject. At that time John also reiterated his total commitment to Chelsea.

We would like to make clear, and will not do so again, that John is not for sale.

The mischievous Guardian report that the official offer was faxed to Stamford Bridge “...City have been strongly led to believe that, despite all his claims to the contrary, Terry is intrigued by what is happening at Eastlands and would like, at the very least, to speak to the club's billionaire owners in Abu Dhabi”.  They also report that City “have been encouraged to maintain their interest after receiving strategic messages from close associates of the player.”

And they say this despite Terry previously stating that he was very happy at Chelsea, was proud of playing for only one club to date and that he wanted to finish his career at Stamford Bridge.

The report also states that City are also willing to double his current salary – which would put him at around 260 odd grand a week!

Bit naughty of the Guardian really isn’t it?  Can’t say I’m surprised though – they’ve never been our “biggest fans” have they?

Meanwhile the Guardian do another attempted destabilising piece:

Mark Hughes, the City manager, has been encouraged by messages from associates of the player, the most prominent being one of Terry's international team-mates. There are several players inside the City dressing room who are on good terms with Terry, and Hughes has spent months putting together enough background information to be confident that a deal most Chelsea fans would like to believe was fantasy is, indeed, a possibility.
