Zhirkov to sign on Wednesday for £18m

CSKA Moscow’s “Russian Ronaldinho” will complete an £18m transfer to Chelsea on Wednesday report The Guardian. The left-sided Russian can play defensively or in attack – so it will be interesting to see how Ancelotti incorporates him into the side.

The 25-year-old´s transfer should mean that a current midfielder or attacking midfielder will be off-loaded – Who though?

Zhirkov, Russia vert

Despite The Guardian claiming the move was carried out due the recommendation of Hiddink, Zhirkov has been on the Chelsea radar for some time – Avram Grant, shortly after his exit from Stamford Bridge, mentioned the fact that Chelsea were monitoring the player during an interview on Israeli radio.

It will be interesting to see if Zhirkov offers any “clarification” on his earlier stated preference for Barcelona!
