Mancienne set to disappoint Wolves and sign new contract

Chelsea youth product Michael Mancienne is to be offered a new contract in the summer with Chelsea. The club are adamant in conserving whatever talent is home produced and the move will stave off interest from newly promoted Wolves who are rumoured to be preparing a £4 million bid.

Mancienne had a successful loan period with the midlands club earlier this season when manager McCarthy likened him to Franz Beckenbauer but Chelsea are anxious to keep him at Stamford Bridge where he will probably form part of a mini refurbishment revolution next season.

Mancienne, England

The new contract will be for four years with a pay-rise of around £15,000 per week and for a player of his ability that has been with the club since the age of 8 is only just reward.

21-year-old Mancienne has only managed a handful of league and champions league appearances for Chelsea this season but his talent was still recognised enough for him to be selected for the full England squad due to his impressive performances for the U21´s.

Well it leaves Mancienne with a massive decision doesn't it ? Sign for Wolves and play 38 premiership games next season or sign a new deal for Chelsea and rot in the reserves. Lets not forget he got an England call up off the back of his performances for Wolves.

Mancienne if I was you i'd ask Sylvan Ebanks Blake about leaving a big team to improve your career.

Well he got the England call-up upon the recommendation of Stuart Pearce who manages the U21 side.

Sure, he´d play less for Chelsea (initially) than he would do for Wolves but then that is really down to a decision from Mancienne himself.

Does he sign the new contract and try and break through into the first team - playing CL football into the bargain (which he has done already for Chelsea this season don´t forget) - this would demonstrate ambition on his part would it not? And don´t forget,he´s been with us since he was 8 years old!

Who knows, he may even have a loan period with yourselves anyway.

Congrats on going up by the way.

The only hope wolves will have is to try to get him on loan, this will only happen if he is not breaking into the the Chelsea squad

Maybe a loan would suit both clubs next season as it could prove he could make the next step up. He played for QPR in a struggling Championship side then a team leading the Championship in Wolves, next for him would be regular games in the premiership surely.

Thanks for the congrats BTW. I'm looking forward to next season but I do fear that the signings we make could shape our next 5 to 10 years. You look at overspenders like Southampton, Charlton, Norwich, Leeds, Leicester, Bradford then look at Sunderland and they spent £50m and stayed up by virtue of 3 points last year and think it'll be a massive struggle. A couple clever Premiership loan sigings,a couple experienced prem players on protected contract (ie a release if relegated) a couple more players from the lower leagues and thats all we can hope for.

Mancienne would be a great first signing to make. Although Stuart Pearce did recommend Mancienne for England I'm sure that his performances at Wolves helped too.

off topic now ----

Good luck V Barcelona in the second leg, I thought keeping a clean sheet against a team with over 100 league goals to their name was quite impressive.

Thank you for the good luck - we may well need a chunk or two of it...

Re those clubs and money spent; How many of those signings, would you say, were made out of panic spending? And how many in general decent signings?
