Academy 3-1 Crystal Palace

COME ON CHELSEA

February 16 2009
After the disappointment of the FA Youth Cup exit against Liverpool ten days ago, the Academy got back to winning ways on Saturday at Cobham with a 3-1 win over the Youth of Crystal Palace. All of the goals were scored by back-four. The first from Captain Jack Saville and the other two from spectacular free-kicks from left-back Jordan Tabor.

The team was virtually unrecognisable from that that played Liverpool. There were several u16s making their first starts.

In attendance before joining up with the first team at Watford was new temporary coach, Guus Hiddink.

Dermot Drummy, Chelseas Under 16 Coach

Dermot Drummy was pleased with the Academy's response. He said, "It is a good win because there was the will to win there today.

"We were disappointed after the loss in the Youth Cup and we have since put more demands on the boys and ourselves as coaches.

"Tabor has a fantastic technique with all dead-ball situations and he is the man when it comes to taking free-kicks. He has the right attitude and it was good to see him score twice today.

"The game is all about commitment, the boys have to know they must constantly challenge opposition teams and without heart, fire and determination you are not going to get very far in football."

Chelsea: Aldi Haxhia, Nikki Ahamed, Rohan Ince, Jack Saville (c), Jordan Tabor, Conor Clifford (Billy Clifford), Aliu Djalo, Milan Lalkovic, Jacopo Sala, Adam Phillip (Aziz Deen Conteh), Josh McEachran (Marko Mitrovic h/t).

The Reserves are in action tonight with a game againt Portsmouth at Brentford's Griffin Park. Kick-off is 7pm and there will be LIVE updates on the message board.

Dermot certainly seems prepared to give plenty of players a chance and I have to admit there are a few names I don´t recognise there.

Interesting that all the goals came from the back four and pleasing that Hiddink was watching.

Doyou know if the match rescheduled on Chelsea TV?
