Reports are coming in that Chelsea youth product Michael Mancienne has been given a shock England call-up to the full England senior squad by Fabio Capello! The young defender has only played minutes for the Chelsea first team in a friendly yet is set to be with the big boys for Wednesday’s match against Germany.

Reports are coming in that Chelsea youth product Michael Mancienne has been given a shock England call-up to the full England senior squad by Fabio Capello! The young defender has only played minutes for the Chelsea first team in a friendly yet is set to be with the big boys for Wednesday’s match against Germany.
So how is it that a youngster who has only featured in the academy team and reserves with only a fleeting appearance in the first team gets into the full England squad?
.
Well it there have been very impressive loan spells at QPR which look to continue at Wolves, where he is now on loan until January, but it must surely be because of his displays for the England U21 team.
I spoke to a bunch of QPR fans when Mancienne was on loan there and they lauded him as a class player, will be better than John Terry and one day play for England – well they certainly look as if they will be proven right on last point.
Wolves manager, Mick McCarthy has also been very impressed by Mancienne. Although he has only played a few games for the Championship side the Irishman has likened him to Franz Beckenbauer.

Mancienne has been at Chelsea since he was 8 years old so but while his call up for the full England squad can make us swell with pride we should also ask the question why hasn’t he got a chance at Chelsea?
.
Well the answer of course is that he has the likes of Terry, Carvalho, Alex and Ivanovich in front of him for the CB positions.
.
Still, maybe he was earmarked by Scolari anyway to join the full squad when his loan period finishes at Wolves in January – if not then it certainly gives us food for thought and a little tap on the shoulder with a “Well if you don’t give your kids a chance, others will…”
.
But I am playing devil’s advocate here. To be fair, Brendon Rogers said himself that our first batch of kids would come through in 2010 (during next season) and we do have the likes of Di Santo, Sinclair, Stoch and Woods all playing or at least featuring on the bench for the first team.

The fact that Mancienne has been loaned out is also intention on the clubs part involve him in first team football soon.

Fantastic news for the kid,also i think it wont be long before we will be hearing a lot of the kid Magnay,the next John Terry.

He hasn't looked out of place once yet for us. Fair play to the lad and fair play to Capello for bringin in different players. No other recent England manager would of done this.

What do you think our chances are keeping him till the end of the season then?

I would imagine it depends on our injury situation re CB´s. If we´re covered there (and don´t sell any in Jan) then I don´t see why Chelsea would not want him to continue at Wolves.
As I´ve said before, at your club he has an opportunity to experience some high pressure football, challenging for a title and playing in front of decent crowds.

JT has said that MM has a future at Chelsea and MM has also said that he wants to stay at Chelsea.
Being at Wolves will do him the world of good and to help Wolves get promotion, I am hoping that will open up Scolari's eyes as it seems to me that he his ignoring the talent on his own doorstep.
But we have been over this before.

Youn never know though Since66, Scolari may surprise us re youth.
He has said that he wants to use youth this season (as does Roman) but despite this hasn´t done so. Has been a bit disappointing to see us go 2-3 up and controlling a game and not bring say Stoch or Sinclair on.
But thinking about it we have had some injury problems (only once has he had everybody to select from) and has contsantly tried to juggle giving senior players some match time to try and help them get match fit during recovery.
It shouldn´t be long now before we get almost everybody back and he can start experimenting with new systems AND give some kids decent run outs.
We have also got the January transfer window to come and he could offload 1-2 which may open up some more space.
Oh well, we´ll see I suppose.
