Fabio Paim: "Like a Dream!"

FABIO PAIM

Chelsea have announced the one-year loan signing of 20 year old Fabio Paim from Sporting. The deal came after the recommendation of “Big Phil” Scolari who obviously feels that he can get something out of the forward who 3 years ago, was rated higher than Manchester United´s Nani.

The loan deal presumably has a fixed fee option to buy after the first season.

The youngster, who plays out wide (Thank you Carefree!), was interviewed at Lisbon airport quite obviously excited and ready for his new challenge.

"Yes, now - now I can believe it. I'm going there to work and give my best. It's a dream to be able to play in a Chelsea shirt, one of the best teams in the world.”

“To tell the truth, I'm still not fully aware of what's happening, it’s all so quick. If possible I'd like to start training as soon as I arrive. I really want to play.”

“I want to get to know my team-mates, and it doesn't matter to me is I get to play in the reserve team or not. It's true it's a huge leap for me in my career, but it's recognition of my ability and it's the biggest opportunity of my life."

Paim was one of the best youngsters at Sporting but spent spells on loan at Olivais e Moscavide, Trofense and Paos de Ferreira, however, I am informed that Portuguese teams in the lower leagues often owe their players back pay and coaches tend to be eyeing where their next job could be.

As I mentioned earlier, he was tipped as a rising star at 14 years of age and ahead of Nani.  Players sometimes mature at different ages so let’s see how he does at Chelsea

That is the strange thing - NOTHING on the official site yet (however, wouldnt be the first time they are the last to put something up about a new signing!)

It is definite - SSN are reporting it - and if Faim says he is happy to play in the reserves, thats where he will be.

To be honest I had seen snippets of this happening over the last week or two, but didn't really take much notice, simply because we havent sold anyone (other than Sidwell) to accommodate any new players.

The Sheva deal looks dead in the water and the normal Internet rumours suggest that Sheva WILL feature in Scolari's plans after all.
