Robinho: Let Me Go to Chelsea!

ROBINHO
By dixon9 August 3 2008
Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon has been very public with regard to his views over what he feels is the incorrectness of Cristiano Ronaldo being held against his will by Manchester United – now his principles are going to be given a stiff test after Robinho has asked both his president and manager Bernd Schuster to let him go to Chelsea.

Robinho made the request during a meeting in London today:

"I want to go to Chelsea (unlike Elvis Costello! - Ed) just as Cristiano wants to go to Madrid – it’s the same thing.”

RAMON CALDERON

Real Madrid had hoped to keep the skilful attacker in Spain with an increased contract offer although the deal falls short of what he can earn at Stamford Bridge, however, what seemed to be the straw that broke the camels back was Calderon’s offer to use Robinho as a make-weight in the Ronaldo deal - this public gaff by Calderon looks to have made the Robinho transfer to Chelsea possible.

I can’t imagine any Manchester United fan or Alex Ferguson wishing to see one of their closest rivals for silverware strengthened by the likes of a player of Robinho´s calibre – but I bet one or two might even smile a little at this latest development.

Over to you Ramon!  Let’s see if you really do believe that it’s wrong to hold back a player that wants to move!  You could even celebrate the fact that your club is involved in such an important transfer – just like you urged Ferguson to do!

Peter Kenyon is correct. I don't always agree with him but he is spot on here. United and Real have been the schoolyard heavies for quite a while now and don't like someone who can stand up to them and compete.

if Wright Phillips can sustain his form we do not need Robo thus saving Utd and Real a fight to the last over one player. As they say one player does not make it a summer

Just wondering if this Wesley Schneider injury will NOW hold up Robinho leaving Madrid....

...and Van de Vaart signs for Real Madrid - so let´s see if that frees up Robinho to us.

Well Kenyon has made it clear that we are hanging on for him and that he feels the only thing holding the deal up is Madrid placating the fans with another signing - and they´ve just signed Van de Vaart.

I reckon within a day or two he´ll be at the Bridge.
