Scolari: Drogba OUT, Etoo IN

FELIP SCOLARI
By dixon9 July 3 2008
Felipe Scolari has told Chelsea suits to sell Didier Drogba according to Ian McGarry. If true, this comes as a shock and would only point to the fact that “The Drog” is not the type of striker that fits into the style of play Scolari blueprints for Stamford Bridge (which doesn’t make much sense to me personally – Drogba is extremely versatile and dangerous on the ground and in the air).

Now the lead for these reports came from The Sun - which is normally enough to dismiss the story – trouble is, McGarry does have connections at the club (especially Lampard apparently) and doesn’t often get it wrong with regards to Chelsea.

A £22million price tag is dangling from Drogba´s powerful neck – a respectable price for a 30 year old I suppose but take into account Milan would be getting one of the (if not THE) best striker in the world.

DROGBA PLEA

Chelsea fans have had mixed views of the Ivorian hitman´s continuance at the club after having to put up with years of yo-yoing in the media on whether he wanted to stay or go.  However, recently Drogba appeared to announce that he didn’t want to go to Mourinho´s Inter, but he wished José good luck and that he had a contract at Chelsea – a statement which made many happy.

But NOW we’ve got this bombshell!  Not worth the paper it’s written on? Or is there something in it?  Have the club had enough of Drogba´s public histrionics?  Has this story been leaked by the club to The Sun to push Drogba into petulant mode and agree to a move?

The good news is that Samuel Etoó is closer to a £18 million Chelsea move after rumoured meetings between Chelsea suits and the player in Paris whose demands for a  £160,000-a-week pay packet (I wonder how they fit all that into an envelope!) to be tempered down with a nice signing-on fee and loyalty bonuses.

Florent Malouda is to be dangled as a carrot to help push the Etoó deal through.

I was hoping that we might see both Drogba AND Etoó at the bridge next season and also that we might give Malouda a chance to shine after possibly suffering from “foreign player first season” syndrome – then again, if Malouda is not required, then a replacement winger must already be lined up – Quaresma, Robinho???

Going to be an interesting week or two!

I saw a headline somewhere today that Scolari WAS told to sell Drogba.

Ian McGarry is quite reliable... He is a confident of Jose and if it is in The Sun it must be true.

Last season Dids let himself down especially after the previous season. That season he was red hot all them goals, man-of-the-match performances, then last season was similar to his first season at The Bridge.

Personally I can't make the man out

He is difficult to make out isn´t he?!!!

I reckon he´s a bit of a petulant child who needs his ego massaged VERY regularly otherwise he´s prone to uncontrollable outbursts to the media.

He´s such a great player that I find it difficult to go off him! We forget that he has sacrificed quite a bit in football terms for us - in only one season since he joined us has he played with a support partner (4-4-2) and has had to take a hell of a bashing from defenders in the process. I don´t think he´s enjoyed his football as much as he wanted to. And not only does he hold the line virtually on his own but he gets back and defends.

Yep! A right drama queen BUT I would be very sad to see him go.
