'Torres Isn't Going Anywhere!!"
By Since66 June 14 2008
Liverpool this morning have hit back at Chelsea by firmly stating that Fernando Torres is not for sale and will not be leaving Liverpool Football Club. Liverpool's Chief Executive Rick Parry said, "Fernando Torres is not for sale and that is that."

In yesterday's press, one paper published a possible Chelsea dream team - just imagine kids in a sweet shop salivating over the tasty treats in front of them - the likes of David Villa, Ronaldinho, Deco and Eto'o alongside Super Frank, Cech, JT, Ashley Cole, Carvalho, Ballack, Bosingwa.

What an interesting few weeks, until the football season starts, we have in store.

Both Benitez and as you point out, Parry state that Torres is not for sale - and nobody would expect them to say any different I suppose. Bear in mind anyway, that Abramovich has BY-PASSED both Parry and Benitez and made the offer direct to Hicks and Gillett.

The Torres offer from Chelsea would appear to be genuine and although his transfer should be almost impossible to obtain, perhaps his continuance at Liverpool isn’t as water-tight and assured as at first thought.

We were derided by some scousers for the report on the Chelsea bid earlier in the week using Radio Marca as the source.

Firstly, the bid was supposed to be around 50M (although strangely enough some papers now say it would be around 35M),secondly that one of Hicks and Gillett wanted to sell, and lastly that Torres agent had been in touch with Benitez to confirm if the Liverpool manager would still be at Anfield next season.

Nobody can know really how much the bid really is, although it would have to be substantially higher than what Liverpool paid for him for either Hicks or Gillett to stop in their tracks and think for a bit.

As for one of the two owners wanting to do the deal with Chelsea that would make sense given the attitude to selling and not selling Liverpool football club is between them (also bear in mind that neither Hicks or Gillett paid for Torres out of their own pockets - they took out a LOAN to buy him and then loaded that loan onto the club - a loan that is accruing interest).

The last point on whether it is true that Torres agent got in contact with Benitez to confirm if he would continue at Liverpool next season or not is true. The next day after our report on this site Benitez was quoted in the press with the following:

"Now is not the time to be saying goodbye. Fernando Torres' agent has asked about my Liverpool future and my answer is that I am 100 per cent committed. If we had a lot of money to spend it would be better, but if we don't it doesn't matter. It is not about buying the most expensive players; it is about buying the right ones."

Now what’s interesting about those quotes is that they are in stark contrast with Benitez´s attitude in previous seasons where he has openly complained about lack of funds to give him the players he needs to make a decent title challenge.

I think Benitez is boxing clever. I think he wants out but is not prepared to resign and lose his pay off. He’s had enough (and after the promises both Hicks and Gillett made when they took over, who can blame him?).

What’s also interesting is that Torres future definitely seems to be tied to Benitez and NOT Liverpool FC – why else would the players agent call Benitez to confirm if he will still be there next season or not?

Just as importantly, that agent’s phone call also confirms that at least Torres thought about the Chelsea deal.

There are also reports that Torres doesn’t like living in Merseyside. This will be dismissed by scousers as the “cockney press” putting Liverpool down.

Chelsea’s interest in Torres is definitely putting Liverpool under more strain (which is not a bad tactic even if the deal doesn’t happen – and isn’t it nice for the boot to be on the other foot for a change?!).

If I was Torres agent, I would ask him to seriously think about getting out. There is too much instability at Liverpool FC at the moment. The situation between Benitez and the owners is too volatile and who knows what could happen once the season gets under way.

And to think the scousers welcomed their new yank owners with open arms!

No, they refinanced and then loaned the club 105 million from Kop holdings, 60 million to put spades in to the ground and 40 million for ongoing expenses, not specifically Torres.

"Now is not the time to be saying goodbye. Fernando Torres' agent has asked about my Liverpool future and my answer is that I am 100 per cent committed. You really don't know Rafa at all and anything he says in public is said for a purpose and rarely what it appears on face value but feel free to put your own interpretation on it.

Where does it confirm that?

Putting us down? I've never seen jealousy as being put down, sorry to disappoint. Could you show us some proof other than the DM as to Torres' disatisfaction with Liverpool? As already pointed out he's never had a bad word to say about it and always professed a great liking for his life here.

Fine. So the Torres money DID come from loan money?!!! Jesus wept!

For one thing, there, I´m quoting Rafa - later I put my interpretation on it which is in fact the opposite of what he says (boxing clever etc...) PLEASE READ and THINK before replying. Out od interest....What is your interpretation of Benitez´z comments above? All very well criticising BUT then not offering an opinion yourself.

Where does it confirm that?

Why get his agent to call Benitez suddenly then?!!! Again, WHAT´S YOUR OPINION on why Torres felt it necessary to ask his agent to call Benitez about his future at Liverpool?

Jealousy?!!! Sorry Kate - you´re going to have to explain that one I´m afraid!

For the record - I do not claim he did or did not say that - only that it was reported. If he was unhappy in Merseyside, I doubt very much he would be as insensitive to say so anyway.

TORRES: I'M HERE TO STAY
Paul Hassall 14 June 2008

Fernando Torres has reaffirmed his commitment to Liverpool by once again declaring his love for life at Anfield.
The Spanish hot-shot has dismissed out of hand any suggestions of a possible summer move and is instead focused on helping the Reds continue their quest for title glory.

"I have no intention of leaving," said Torres.

"We have to focus our energies to give the little step we need to get to the top teams.

"If we only improve the team a little, we are going to manage to do so.

"I want to say very clearly that I'm not on the market and it is my desire to continue at Liverpool.

"I am very happy at Liverpool and want to carry on."

Fair enough - BUT will he say the same if Benitez goes?

(By the way, those Torres quotes are from 4 days ago)

So? I think he makes it very clear where he wants to be as do all the quotes of his from the whole season as in

when asked if he would like to remain a Liverpool player for the rest of his career.
"I feel very confident here. If we can win trophies, then much better. This is my team, my city and Anfield is my pitch. I feel very good."

Maybe ...or maybe not.

But do you think Torres future is linked to Benitez though? i.e If Benitez left Liverpool, do you think Torres would stay?

I think it would depend on who the manager is.

Torres was totally taken aback at the reaction of the fans after the Klinsman fiasco. He was pleased to take the side of the fans and speak out for Rafa on a few occasions.

That Rafa was here was a big draw for him there's no mistake about that, but since he's been here he's seen so much about the club and fans that he really likes it would be down to who the new manager would be, and the clubs ambition as to whether he'd go, imo.

If you read Torres interviews before and after he came to Liverpool he comes across as a lad who has never lost his roots and has found it possible to have a social consience and earn a lot of money. He's a very well grounded person and if he leaves Liverpool it certainly won't be for the money or even trophies Chelsea may offer.

Rafa is commited to Liverpool of that there is no doubt. He's also the most political football manager I've ever known and anything he says in public has a purpose which may not be seen until later on.

He's brought around 25 young players to the club from around the world, he'll not easily quit on those kids who are counting on him. He's just not that type.

Fair comment.

I´m not so sure about Rafa staying at Liverpool though - despite what he says (he has a pay-off to consider). My suspicion is that one more "false move" from Waldorf and Stadtler and he might not demand a settlement to leave.

IF Benitez left, I reckon Torres might just well leave - although you could be right - the next manager may well convince him to stay depending upon who he is.

I still think that Torres continuance at Liverpool is mostly linked to Benitez being there though - to the contary, his agent wouldn´t call Benitez to ask whether he was definitely staying or not at Anfield.

Torres's agent could have called asking that quite a few times over the season, just because Rafa has used it now doesn't mean it's recent.

Rafa is not the type to wait around for a pay off, re Valencia. He isn't a money motivated person except where buying players is concerned. The biggest motivation he has to stay at Liverpool is the fact that he is a manager of far many more aspects of the club than he's ever been allowed to manage before.

He's reorganised every football based aspect from the Academy to the first team, the scouting system has had a complete overhaul and he's set the club up with very much with an eye to the future as well as now. He and his family are very happy here and he himself would like to do better in the Prem before he leaves.

I've no doubt one day he'll manage RM, it's his home town club but not yet, his ambitions are all at Liverpool.

If Torres left I think it would be to Barca or one of the Italian clubs, doubt he'd leave Liverpool for another English club.

"If I was Torres agent, I would ask him to seriously think about getting out. There is too much instability at Liverpool FC at the moment". So he should head for Chelsea - the bedrock of stability (Sm6).

Or Man Utd - where all their fans are really chuffed about the Glazers, the huge debt they´ve loaded onto the club and the constantly rising ticket prices which are ensuring that the core fans are really happy and renew their season tickets with increasing regularity!

"I feel very confident here. If we can win trophies, then much better. This is my team, my city and Anfield is my pitch. I feel very good."

Without meaning to rub it in, can you really imagine a player like Torres saying that but with Chelsea? Even someone like Lampard or Drogba? Its a shame that you'll never experience what its like to be a truly special club, win, lose or draw. Its a shame you sold out everything just to win. But with no soul, just a rich mans toy.

We may have crappy, dumb owners. But at least we're not that, a rich mans latest toy. Thats sad, as one football fan to another, I do actually pity you smiling smiley
