Games Might Be Over But the Season Isn't.
By Since66 April 25 2008
A thrilling seven goal defeat against the Youth of Portsmouth on Thursday afternoon brought the curtain down on a highly entertaining and exciting season, which culminated with the Academy reaching the FA Youth Cup Final. In atrocious conditions the Academy went 1-0 down early, fought back to lead 3-2 then in the dying minutes lost to what could only be described as a freakish goal.

Of the game Paul Clement said, "It was an interesting game today, we're obviously disappointed to lose 4-3.

"We went into the last three games against Cardiff, Leicester and Portsmouth and we wanted to win all of the games and finish with a bit more respectable league position.

"Unfortunately we have taken only two out of the nine points. But the positive to take from today is we fought very hard throughout which isn't always the case.

Paul Clement, Chelsea coach

"In terms of the goals conceded, the first one Nic Heimann has come to try and catch the ball and obviously we want to encourage him to come out for those sort of balls - but unfortunately he missed it.

"With their penalties, the first may have been a penalty but I don't think the second one was. The fourth goal the player has totally miss-hit it and our keeper has mis-read it.

"So they are not great goals they put in, but for us to score three is pleasing and has been the story of our season, attacked brilliantly but at times defended not so well.

"But I was pleased with the effort of the players," Clement concluded.

Portsmouth's goalscorers were Tom Kilbey, Mutombo (pen), Ritchie 2 (1 pen).

Chelsea goalscorers were Phillip, Mellis, Bruma

Chelsea team:

Nic Heimann, Nikki Ahamed (Jeffrey Bruma 45), Jack Saville, Jacob Mellis, Ben Gordon (Billy-Joe King 63), Tom Taiwo (c), Gael Kakuta, Jordan Hibbert, Adam Phillip, Fabio Borini (Jordan Tabor 63), Daniel Philliskirk.

Sounds like a right up and down match!

4-3 losing in the last few minutes!
