Arsenal Can't 'Beat' Themselves!!!
By Since66 April 13 2008
It is four years and two months to the day, give or take, that Chelsea were last beaten at home in the Premiership. The team that beat us that day was Arsenal who at the moment couldn't beat themselves. In a week where they threw away a Champions League semi-final place up in Scouseland, today they threw away their lingering title hopes up in Mancland.

Bye Bye Arsenal. Don't Cry Arsenal. Boo Hoo Arsenal. Ha Ha Arsenal.

Chelsea entertain Wigan Athletic on Monday night at Stamford Bridge - a win is imperative - if we are to sustain our own challenge in now what is a TWO horse race then on Thursday we travel to Goodison Park and we simply have to get SIX points.

I don't think I could stand Man Utd coming to Stamford Bridge in two weeks time and claim their second successive title.

Avram Grant during the Barclays Premier League match at Craven Cottage, west London

Avram Grant this afternoon roared, "We are in good shape at the right time, after so many games in the last two or three months, 80% were good quality with good wins, so we are in good shape now. But there is always another game where you need to prove yourself."

He continued, "We are in the best situation since I came here, and even if we weren't, we always believed we could do something in the league. Even with five or four teams ahead of us, we believed we could fo something in the league, especially now."

"We are unbeaten in the league since December, and are the Premier League's form team, with 19 points taken from the last 21 available to us."

On tomorrow's game Grant said, "It is not easy to play against Wigan in my opinion. They are a good team and difficult to beat, when they lose they are losing 1-0 or 2-1, so I expect a very difficult game here."

Expect Carlo to miss the rest of the season and Petr is back in training and is getting better after his horrific injury last weekend.

I have no problem with Hilario being in goal. Hilario is a legend and he won't let us down.

Steve Bruce, Wigan's manager said, "If we win at Stamford Bridge then I am sure Fergie will have a little drink. Mind you, I'd hope to get more than one bottle sent from Old Trafford myself if we beat Chelsea. They haven't lost at home for four years, so I'd expect to get a case of the good stuff if we get a result down there."

"Its a long time since I've had any influence on a title race and to be honest I haven't even been thinking of this one because I've been concentrating on the other end of the table."

"We play both play Chelsea and United in our last five games and we still need points ourselves to make sure that we're safe."

"Our home form has been good and if we can take that to Stamford Bridge on Monday night and they have an off-day then we could give them a hell of a game. We need a result as much as they do."

"People have been giving us pats on the back all week, so I've had to bring the players down a peg or two so they know we are not yet safe."

The Arsenal result at OT was a bad result for us - even winning tonight and again on Thursday (when we´ll be tired thanks to the PL and Sky re-arranging our fixture so that we are at a disadvantage) only puts us level, behind on GD and with the Mancs with a game in hand - they can afford to lose to us and still be ahead on GD if they win their remaining fixtures (only realistic hope is when they play Blackburn away).

It is a 2 horse race but we´ll need a comeback and a thundering late finish like that horse "Sea Biscuit"!

My heart says we can win the next two - my head says a win tonight and a draw away at Everton (although the good news was that with the scousers beating Blackburn, Everton know that that 4th CL spot is now almost impossible to reach).

You had your hubris against Liverpool Padre - you were singing their name at the Emirates last season.
