YOUTH AND RESERVES: Nº 2 - BEN SAHAR + VIDEO

BEN SAHAR
By dixon9 March 6 2007
Ben Sahar, forward, was signed at 16 years of age from Hapoel Tel Aviv after a 2 month trial for the bargain fee of 320,000. He is very quick, powerful and has an excellent eye for goal with José Mourinho already having hinted that he may well be in the full first team squad next season.
Hopefully, Sahar will also be joined with a couple of others (presumably Sinclair and Woods).  Indeed, Mourinho has already said that he wished Chelsea had a youth player with his ability at center back during our injury crisis in that position.Since being at Chelsea he has gained a place in the Israeli national squad (although he also has Polish citizenship through his mother).  Despite being only 17 he has also played for the U21 squad along with the U17 squad and has now made a further jump into the full squad which will face England shortly.

He has already scored for the U21´s against France helping his team to shock qualification in the UEFA U21 Championship and at 17, became the youngest player to play for the full national squad against Shevchenko´s Ukraine.

Presumably he is one of Arnesen’s findings being spotted in an U16 match against Ireland.  His former youth team coach Eyal Hayit sung his praises:"He is suitable for Europe because he knows how to achieve the goals he sets himself and he is an exceptionally talented player, He is fast and has fantastic physical ability; he scores 30-40 goals a season and his ball skills are something you don't see here every day." Ben has appeared with the Chelsea first team against Macclesfield Town in the FA Cup on January 6, 2007, coming on for Salomon Kalou in the 76th minute.  He also came off the bench against Wycombe Wanderers in the Carling Cup.  On January 13, 2007 made his Premiership debut against Wigan, replacing Arjen Robben in the 82nd min.  When I’ve seen him he’s looked very lively and confident and would love to see him break into the first team next season. After the Macclesfield game, Sahar said:"The entire crowd was chanting 'Sahar! Sahar!' It's an incredible feeling. Incredible.""I wasn't nervous at all. I was playing alongside some of the best players in the world, and I didn't have any butterflies. I know that I have a long way to go, but I hope to get a lot more time in the senior team. I know I have a lot of hard work ahead of me if I want to prove that today was just the start."Blueblood also mentioned Sahar in an earlier article:
