YOUTH AND RESERVES: Nº 1 - SCOTT SINCLAIR + VIDEO

SCOTT SINCLAIR
By dixon9 February 20 2007
Scott Sinclair at just 17 years of age should be, without a doubt, one of the bright stars of the future – AND….he’s English, which is good news for the national team. He is very quick and surprisingly strong for his weight (see the goal he scored for Plymouth below).

There’s no doubt that the policy of putting the possible “soon to be used” youngsters out on loan so that they can get real league football experience instead of playing against other youngsters is paying off.

Scott tends to play on the left up front for both Chelsea, Plymouth and England U17´s.Scott was 16 (just 10 days younger than Theo Walcott) when he was signed by Chelsea for 200,000 under “controversial circumstances” from Bristol Rovers.

Of course, by “controversial circumstances” this means that the press and media needed to perpetuate their anti-Chelsea agenda – Chelsea, the devils spawn, poach and steal youngsters from other teams whereas other clubs such as Arsenal “unearth gems”!!!  Of course, Chelsea were the first team to scour the country (or the world) in search of promising youngsters playing for other clubs – big or small.  Indeed, history shows that the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester United always found their youngsters innocently kicking tennis balls around the streets of Islington (or is it Woolwich?), Bootle or Salford.  A curious fact is that Bristol Rovers spotted Scott playing for Bath Arsenal!

Scott was born in Bath, Somerset and made his first team SENIOR debut at the age of 15 for Bristol Rovers In his first season for Chelsea his initial 21 appearances produced 15 goals (not bad for a winger!) and his upgrade to the reserves produced 3 goals in 7 games. Before being loaned out to Plymouth, Scott was called up for the Macclesfield FA Cup match and then made his first appearance on the Stamford Bridge turf on the 10th January 2007 in the League Cup game against Wycombe Wanderers.  Later that month, the youngster was signed on a month’s loan by one of his old trainers, Ian Hollaway for Plymouth (the loan has since been extended by a further month).

He made his debut for Plymouth as a substitute in a 3-2 win against Coventry City.  Then, in his 2nd match, he scored a superb goal in a 3-2 win over Barnet in the 4th round of the FA Cup.  His next appearances bought more goals – 1 against Wolves at Molineux and then another just a few days later against Derby in the FA Cup.

Scott, at the time of his signing for Chelsea said the following:

"I am thrilled to be signing for Chelsea. They are one of the biggest clubs in the world and to be able to learn from the players they have there will be fantastic”."I had offers from several big clubs but the Academy setup at the club and their new training ground is incredible and I didn't need much persuading to sign”."I would also like to thank Bristol Rovers, who have been so good towards me. They understood this was an opportunity I couldn't turn down and didn't try to stand in my way.  I will always follow the team's fortunes and wish them every success."
