ANOTHER CHELSEA INJURY BLOW - ASHLEY COLE
By dixon9
February 10 2007
Ashley Cole is the latest Chelsea soldier wounded in action in the Stamford Bridge trenches after collapsing on the Stamford Bridge pitch. He appeared to get his right foot trapped in the turf with his left then clashing into the right, thereby exerting extreme pressure on the knee joint.

(the attached photo shows the moment of injury).

Mourinho said "He's not OK.  It could be the cross ligament, the internal ligament, the patella, I don't know. He can't walk. It is serious."

However, a scan showed that the injury is not long term - the anterior ligament is not damaged as was the case in Michael Owen´s injury, although he will miss the CC Final against Arsenal (whose fans are already celebrating the injury) and England’s forthcoming match against Spain.

Reports say that Cole will be out for at least two months out of action – so back for the start of April, in time for the CL quarter finals (should we qualify) and in time for the possibly title deciding match against Man Utd.

I suspect that the recently relayed pitch is still too soft and responsible for this latest blow - If this is the case, then questions need to be asked.  Ever since I can remember, we are ALWAYS having problems with our pitch and with today’s technology; I refuse to believe that we can’t get this situation solved once and for all.  Some say that we are blighted with a high water table in our part of London – doesn’t mean too much to me and I’d be grateful if anyone could throw some light on the subject.

We do have excellent cover in Wayne Bridge although missing Cole’s pace gives me cause for concern.  Mourinho, in almost resigned fashion said the following with regard to our almost constant injury list:  "It's like having a blanket that is too small for the bed.  You pull the blanket up to keep your chest warm and your feet stick out. I cannot buy another blanket because the supermarket (transfer window) is closed – but at least my blanket is made of cashmere.”

Then, despite the constant press persecution and injury problems, José made a rallying statement: "We're six points behind, in this moment it's very, very good.  It's a big achievement by a group full of problems. The group is strong and will fight. And we are still there. It's a pity we don't play Manchester United soon, because if we did and could reduce the gap from six to three everything is open, but we have to wait until we play them, I think, in April."

GET WELL SOON ASHLEY! AND COME ON YOU BLUES!
