Ben Sahar was fouled on Chelsea's left three minutes from time, Jimmy took the kick and the low cross together with the runs of Mancienne and Pettigrew deceived the Charlton defence and 'keeper Anderson and the ball found itself nestling in the bottom corner of Charlton's net.
Following on from the opening victory against Fulham two weeks ago, the Reserves have won two out of two, scored five goals with none conceded.
These are exciting times for the development of the Youth and Reserve players at Chelsea. It is understandable why Leeds United and Mr Ken Bates are jumping up and down screaming 'tap-up' over the transfer of 16 year old Michael Woods from Leeds to Chelsea.
Making his first reserve team start and up against Matt Holland (holder of 40 plus International caps), Michael was not out place. Combining defensive duties with starting regular Chelsea attacks, Michael belied his young age. Also another youngster to keep an eye on is 17yr old Ben Sahar. He came off the bench on Saturday to score the winner for the Academy and last night was full of running, full of pace, strenght and skill. Young Charlton defender Thomas had his work cut out to keep Ben quiet.
If Sahar continues to develop and improve, he can become a player in the moulds of ex-Chelsea legends, the Late Great King of Stamford Bridge Peter Osgood and the goalscoring legend, Kerry Dixon.
