Celebrate
I know that, and you know that, but the Spurs fans at the Home of Football don’t know that. When Spurs went 1-0 up from a pass by a Dutchman to an Irishman they "sang one nil to the Ingerland", so they also think that Keane is English too.
Arsenal had played poorly for 60 minutes, Lennon had tormented Flamini, and Keane got into scoring positions quite a few times. Only good goalkeeping by Lehmann, and Spurs inability to score, kept the score level at half-time. Arsenal’s midfield was not gripping; RvP and Adebayor played in fits and starts. The few chances Arsenal had were hit weakly straight at the goalkeeper.
Half of Arsenal’s best players were on the bench thinking about Tuesday, and the other half on the field were hoping they too could have a rest. Spurs were playing well, but it’s hard to know how much of that was due to the Gunners listless play.
It was clear that Wenger needed to make changes, but the first change was not what the crowd were looking forward to. Eboue came on at 54 minutes to replace the injured Senderos. Then on 62 minutes the crowd got the changes they really wanted as Henry and Fabregas replaced Diaby and RvP.
For the second week running an Arsenal substitution seemed to disrupt the home team more than the opposition. Henry was leading the charge and the crowd was urging the team on, but instead of getting the quick goal the Gunners found themselves under counter attack.
Laurel and Hardy moment.
Gilberto and Eboue went for the same ball collided and fell to the ground, Davids continued with the ball and crossed for Keane who gave Lehmann no chance. Arsenal players protested, but no actual rule had been breached. Henry determinedly led the team in an attempt to recover the situation. As hard as Arsenal tried they could not get past Robinson. Jubilant Spurs fans sensed a victory, Arsenal had not played that well, this would be the first victory in 13 years. "We’re not going home" and "1-0 to Ingerland they sang". Rather strange as the scorer was Irish.
At last Arsenal started to play, now they really put the pressure on, but they couldn’t find the net. The crowd was beginning to lose all hope when Adebayor pushed his way past Stalteri on the left and passed to Henry in the area. Henry came in at an angle and lashed the ball into the net. With five minutes left Arsenal tried to force the winner, although they didn’t get it the crowd was delighted with the Davids sending off for a second yellow. They blamed him for unsporting behaviour in the first goal, and also for one nasty foul too many. He was lucky to still be on.
The Spurs fans were gutted, "you’re not going home" sang the Clock End. Two points might have been dropped, but Spurs would never beat Arsenal at Highbury.
