Ratings v City Guendouzi Best Player On Park

By Matt Sadler
February 3 2019

Well firstly everyone thought we were going with 5/3 at the back, but Emery surprisingly went with a 4-4-2. We couldn't have got off to a worse start after Iwobi got caught in possession and City capitalised through Aguero.

After a very nervy first 10 minutes, however, the Gunnerssettled into our shape, defended much better and even equalised. We were right in it up until the end of the first half, where City's superior quality saw Aguero score again.

Second half was all City and a third goal was inevitable.

That certainly wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but maybe, just maybe, we could've done better today if we'd bought in a defender or two?

Ratings:

Leno - 7. Couldn't have done much about the goals but made a number of good saves to keep things respectable.

Lichtsteiner - 3. I find I've written the same things about him every game. I never expected him to be the same player he was physically, but he's generally clueless.
Mustafi - 5. Could've conceded a penalty. Dives in too much.
Koscielny - 7. Pick of the defenders. Scored.
Monreal - 6. Didn't do anything wrong. Good flick on for our goal.

Iwobi - 3. At fault for their early opener. Offered nothing, offensively or defensively, on the right.
Torreira - 7. Had a lot on his plate today but I thought he did well.
Guendouzi - 8. Where do I start? Best player on the park in the first half and our best player overall. At 19 he was our most mature, composed player and the only one who really stepped up.
Kolasinac - 6. Bizarrely played a weird type of left winger/ free role in the first half and ended up being our biggest attacking threat.

Lacazette - 6. Worked hard but offered little support/ service. No impact on the second half.
Aubameyang - 5. Offered little support/ service, but didn't affect the game.

Subs:

Ramsey - 5. Okay but the game was lost.
Suarez - 4. Not the best debut under difficult circumstances.
Mavropanos - N/A. Not on long, but good to see him back.
