How Bad Was It? Ratings V United

By Matt Sadler

We can consider ourselves very unlucky that we saw play interrupted by two lengthy injury stoppages when we were comfortably on top and lost our two starting centre backs, but this game was all about the first goal. United were set up to catch us on the counter and they did that again, and again, and again. We saw so much of the ball but created so little with it, and we were poor at the back. Very frustrating.

As we already know, we need defenders and wingers.

RATINGS:

Cech - 4. Thought he was poor on all three goals.

Maitland-Niles - 5. Started off well but worsened. Did a job on Alexis, apart from playing him onside for the opener...
Sokratis - 5. Off injured early. Big blow if he is out for any period of time.
Koscielny - 4. Not good at all.
Kolasinac - 5. Nowhere on United's second. Got forward a lot but didn't create anything.

Xhaka - 5. Started off well in midfield but struggled trying to prevent United's counters. Finished at centre half.
Torreira - 4. Possibly his worst game for us. Kept diving in but not winning the ball. Nowhere on the goals.

Aubameyang - 4. Finished the first half strongly but otherwise was poor.
Ramsey - 5. Best player in the first half. Worst player in the second half.
Iwobi - 5. Can't fault his approach play but he is wasteful.

Lacazette - 5. Work rate was excellent but his quality on the ball was not. Cheap flick led to United's third.

Subs:

Mustafi - 4. Not great on the second goal. Didn't think he was at fault for much else directly but we looked shakier at the back as soon as he came on.
Ozil - 5. Passed better in the final third when he came on but that was it.
Guendouzi - 5. Thought he looked better than Xhaka and Torreira.
