Willock MotM Ratings v Blackpool

By Matt Sadler
January 5 2019

Awful game, real lack of quality from both sides. Could've scored a load more. Could've conceded a few as well. Let's hope Koscielny's injury in the warm up will convince them to buy another defender this month, if they needed anymore convincing...

RATINGS

Cech - 6. Made a couple of saves but again he didn't look comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Jenkinson - 5. Willing runner up and down the right but the quality isn't there.
Lichtsteiner - 3. This guy is just terrible.
Sokratis - 6. Best of the defenders but nothing spectacular.
Kolasinac - 5. Not great defensively or going forward.

Elneny - 4. Doesn't do anything.
Ramsey - 6. Free kick led to the opener. Could've scored twice towards the end.

Maitland-Niles - 7. Worked hard. Did well.
Willock - 8. Real positive. Put himself about. Good going forward and scored twice. Come on so much since last season.
Iwobi - 7. Lively. Scored.

Nketiah - 6. Dangerous but finishing let him down.

Subs:

Lacazette - 5. Didn't get into the game.
Medley - N/A. Not on long.
Saka - N/A. Not on long.

Mainly agree Matt, I would just say that Kolasniac was slighter better going forward than his pretend defending

What are everyone's thoughts on Eddie Nketiah?

He will essentially be our third choice striker for the rest of this season.

Genuinely I think he's got so much quality in terms of his pace, dribbling and movement, but he hasn't scored for the first team yet this season. It looked today like the misses were getting to him.

I think being substituted was quite a blow to him, but unfortunately his shooting was completely off key. Willock was the big surprise, really unlucky not to have his hat trick

Nketiah?
Not ready yet or ever?

Same malaise as Ramsey.
Prior to is "öne-season wonder" scoring prowess, Ramsey commented that Wenger told him to take a split-second of calmness and do not rush his shots.

Nketiah rushed his shots and just does not have that split-second of composure to be a top-notch striker. He has yet to reach the level of a 17-year-old Tony Cottee when he started playing in the senior team.

Alidiere, Jeffers, Pennant, Bentner, Lupoli, Vela, Antony Stoke, Benik Afobe, Akpom, ... look like Nketiah is just one of those; "flat track bully" in youth teams but cna't cut it against man.

"The idea is to be more unpredictable every year and be more difficult for the opponents to stop and nullify what we want to do. That’s what we have now, especially at the back and in the midfield the options we have, to open up the spaces, we have many more options than we had last year.” Mikel Arteta

Wilcock was great today with plenty of energy, want to see more of him and Saka.

Why is Jenkinson not getting a chance over Stephan, makes no sense.

Cech - 6. Made a couple of saves and his distribution is improving.

Jenkinson - 5. Willing runner up and down the right but the quality isn't there.
Lichtsteiner - 3. This guy is just terrible.
Sokratis - 6. Best of the defenders but nothing spectacular.
Kolasinac - 5. Not great defensively or going forward.

Elneny - 4. Doesn't do anything.
Ramsey - 6. Free kick led to the opener. Could've scored twice towards the end.

Maitland-Niles - 6. Worked hard. Nothing spectacular and just did not grabbed his chance to impress with doing more.

Willock - 8. Real positive. Put himself about. Good going forward and scored twice. Come on so much since last season.

Iwobi - 7. Lively. Scored.

Nketiah - 6. Dangerous but finishing let him down. The consolation is that he is always at the right place at the right timw.

Subs:

Lacazette - 5. Didn't get into the game.
Medley - N/A. Not on long.
Saka - N/A. Not on long.

5 - Unai Emery - not adventurous enough to experiment with the likes of Saka and Medley during start of 2nd half. Or brave enough to start Jenkinson-Sokratis-Medley as our Back-3 and took off Lichstiener during 2nd half.

It will be lovely to watch Medley-Willock-Saka on the left for 20 minutes or more.
Not brave, Emery, not brave.

Jenkinson should be 2nd to bellerin until we get an upgrade on Bellerin

Jenkinson can't be any worse than Lichtsteiner who sometimes appear to be a deer caught in a headlight. But we definitely need an upgrade on Bellerin who imo has regressed in his game especially his pace.
