Italian Job - Arsenal Crim Ratings

Two huge away goals, a clean sheet and much, much better performance. A good response to a rubbish few weeks.

Ospina - 7. Got lucky twice, otherwise did well.

Chambers - 7. Did well, particularly in the first half where his delivery was good and he was strong in the air.
Mustafi - 7. Solid. Much better.
Koscielny - 7.5. Read the danger well. Looked more like himself.
Kolasinac - 7. Much improved. Got forward well in the first half.

Xhaka - 7.5. Solid, disciplined, hard-working, passed well.
Ramsey - 8. Maybe justifies the decision to rest him at the weekend? Disciplined, ran tirelessly, scored.

Ozil - 8. Two really good assists.
Wilshere - 7.5. Worked hard, passed well.
Mkhitaryan - 7.5. Class first half. Worked hard, scored and clipped the bar. Quieter second half.

Welbeck - 6.5. Worked hard but could've scored twice.

Subs:

Maitland-Niles - 6. Did well at left back.
Holding - N/A. Not on long.
Elneny - N/A. Not on long.

When did we last win an away leg in last 16 of European Competition?
Excellent performance, but still a way to go

They did well. Where has this resolve been? Or do we just go to pieces when we concede?

Still a long way to go, Milan is 7th in serie A n not even one recognized player in their team.

i wasnt as impressed. milan are in major trouble right now.

didn't think xhaka was very good, and jack was very loose with the ball.

i also can't help but think we would be better off without ozil. he may have a lion tatted on his arm but he has the heart of a chipmunk. we are in a high press and the team looks like a pack of wolves on a hunt, and then it gets to him to chase the ball down and he cowers in fear. every single time.

Ospina was super lucky, looked like a school boy flapping for that cross he missed.

then again nice to play a game and not lose

I thought your ratings were a bit low, Matty.

0-2 at AC! Most on here thought we were in for a bashing and there's no problem with that, but to turn around the@#$%&we've had digest the last 2 weeks, is a major improvement IMO.

I reckon Welbz had a really good game apart from fluffing his couple of shots on goal. He caused the AC defence trouble all night and keeped them from playing out from the back with any pace. I was also impressed, for a change, with Xhaka. His passing was great as was his tackling.

Since the end of WW1, 1919, when the FA restarted its 4 tier football league, with Arsenal fc in the 1st div, there’s only ever been one club to have never been relegated from Div 1/ EPL.

Didn't feel I could rank Welbeck too highly, he worked hard but he was awful at the start of the game and he really should've scored twice. Against better sides that will cost us.

Milan were terrible.

Welbeck does lead the line, he is physical, tackles back, but has no first, second or third touch. Shame

Its become much worse then when he first arrived. That goes for any players wenger benches. Most of the time the player regresses in a master of months and never gp back to their best level.

Possibly because of our training. So only people who play are match, the benchers just lose sharpness and hardly make an impact.

Giroud was exceptional in this respect

Just got back from Milan and I think it was probably the first game I've enjoyed watching the Arsenal all year.
Atmosphere was electric and make no mistake, any match there is a big game.

Ratings:

Ospina: 7 - couple of hairy moments but did well largely. Loved him coming off his line to sweep up.
Chambers - 7 Solid game, got forward well and had a really good effort saved.
Koscielny - 8 Thought he was excellent. He was barking out orders and organising the defence well for what ended up being a lot of crosses and corners to deal with.
Mustafi 7 - Much much better from him. However, there was a chance late on where they went though and he was woefully out of position.
Kolasinac - 7 - Though he was solid as well, Forced a lot of the crosses to come from deeper than they would have liked.
Xhaka - 7 - Solid, strong and stayed in poison well. Would have been higher if he hadn't decided to shoot form the middle of nowhere when we were trying to see out the game.
Ramsey - 8 - Big game from him. Work rate was excellent and led from the front. He covered so much ground
Wilshere - 8 - Again what energy levels, tracked back, tackled and rarely misplaced passes. His movement was brilliant.
Mkhitarayan - 8 - First half in particular was brilliant, energy, vision, pace and he looked very bit a player wanting to score. Reminded me of the likes of Hleb, Rosicky in the way he played. More of this please!
Ozil - 8 - there when it counted. Very quietly went about his business and a hand in both goals and numerous chances first half. Tired towards the end.
Welbeck - 7 - should have scored at least one. Just not a striker but led the line well and allowed our midfield to get into attacking positions with his movement.

Subs:

Maitland Niles - 8 - I thought he slotted in perfectly. Don't think he was beaten once nor did he give the ball away. Great first touch to get out of trouble and great strength.
Eleneny- 7 - Again slotted in well completely out of position but was comfortable getting forward.
Holding - 6 - Didn't do a lot when he came on and it wasn't for long. Just covered the same really which seemed to be the ask.

Really enjoyed it, looking forward to next week.

I had this troll on my twitter timeline claiming away fans were a disgrace that they were spending the whole match slagging off Wenger. I couldn’t hear it. Also heard that a 100 ultras stayed behind to applaud the Arsenal fans

There were definitely still Milan fans around after the game and I had a few beers with some back at my hotel as well not the slightest sight of trouble which was refreshing.

I cannot say as I personally heard much negativity from our fans throughout but I will say there wasn't too many there. We definitely didn't sell our allocation and there were a few Milan fans and general tourists there too. Most around me seemed to be having a great time. Before the game it was the usual with there being a lot of negativity around the club. I hardly spoke to anyone who gave us a chance before kickoff. I was worried when I saw the team but like most fans soon as we kicked off it was soon forgotten.

sounds a great time, I cant imagine that many, apart from the clinically insane expected us to win. Arsenal.com commentators predicted a draw, and they nearly always predict a win.
But the troll was claiming it was all negative even at 2-0 up, which I dont believe

To be honest I don't think we can rationalize it. This team is just inconsistent in their mentality. Sometimes they want to win and they turn up, sometimes they don't.

I think it speaks to something lacking in the preparation process for each game and the lack of leadership on the pitch once the game starts.

Maybe Welbeck is worried about getting injured again he is easily knocked off the ball and seems to shirk the physical challenge.
