Alexis Owns Stoke MotM and Player Ratings

By Matty Sadler
May 13 2017

The first half was a walk in the park. We dominated possession, weren't threatened remotely by Stoke, and took the lead when Giroud tapped in Bellerin's square ball. The second half started in much the same vein, and we doubled our lead after Alexis's brilliant through ball was finished by Ozil. Stoke then threw on Crouch and the game quickly turned into a tasty affair featuring fouls, elbows and a number of corners. Stoke pulled one back in controversial circumstances thanks to a handball by Peter Crouch. Fortunately it didn't cost us as we restored our two goal cushion when Alexis's shot took a slight deflection past Butland, and added another when Giroud turned in Ramsey's low cross.

Good win at a ground where we often struggle. We are one point off Liverpool with two games to play.

Cech - 7. Nothing to do in the first half. Couple of saves in the second half, including two very good ones.

Holding - 7. Solid. Can't get over how good he is.
Mustafi - 7. Solid. Good forward passes.
Koscielny - 7. Solid.

Bellerin - 7. Looked good at RWB. Two assists.
Coquelin - 7. Showed why sitting isn't his best role. Good through ball to Bellerin for Giroud's opener.
Xhaka - 7. Kept things ticking over nicely again.
Monreal - 7. Danger man in the first half. Hit the post.

Ozil - 7. Quiet first half but played some great passes. Took his goal well.
Giroud - 8. Scored twice.
Alexis - 9. At his best today. Bags of running, skill and silky dribbling, plus a well taken goal and an unreal assist.

Subs:

Ramsey - 6. Decent cameo. Assist.
Welbeck - N/A. Not on long.
Walcott - N/A. Not on long.
