Player Ratings v Man U Cech MotM

By Boris Mellor & Merlion
November 20 2016

Opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has got one, so rather than be upset at the ratings proposed here why not post your own, there again you might even agree. Personally I have no opinion at all as I went for a five mile country walk as waiting 89 minutes for a lone Arsenal goal is not my idea of fun.  Having watched Arsenal not beat Man U for the last nine seasons running, and not being a masochist, I felt no need to suffer any further.

The ratings that follow are not mine they are taken from Merlion's longer article here

7 - Cech - he kept us in the game.
6 - Jenkinson - cannot fault him for his commitment and willingness to run and closed down players.
7 - Mustafi - a few dodgy moments but provide great cover at right flank as well.
7 - Koscielny - one of his better game and no Bart Simpson moment.
7 - Monreal - superb display, especially with Valencia being unplayable today.

6 - Elneny - another runner all over the pitch to chase and close down ManU players.
6 - Coquelin - an adequate performance but easily out-muscled by Pogba.

5 - Walcott - neither a forward nor a right-winger. A limited flat-track bully.
6 - Alexis - Mourinho proved that he is not a centre-forward.
6 - Ramsey - competent performance to provide cover for Monreal.

Substitute:
7 - Ox - an impact substitute who just cut through an exhausted Rashford to set up Giroud header.
7 - Giroud - why he is vital to Arsenal - our only bona fide centre-forward who delivered.
6 - Xhaka - at least better than Elneny in ball distribution and a presence in midfield.
N/A - Xhaka - unable to rate him but one or two misplaced passes.

4 - Arsene Wenger - Bad result, bad performances, bad attitude.

Final score 1-1

Brief notes:

It was our much maligned defence that bailed us out and grabbed a point for us.
Yes, we have a deep squad full of talents on paper only.
But realistically?
Take out Ozil, an off-form Iwobi and an injured Bellerin ... and we had a disjointed team at OT.

6- Cech: Made 1 half decent save from Mata but was nowhere for their goal

7- Jenkinson: Solid defensively, done well considering how long he's been out.
7- Mustafi: Was poor first half but improved in the 2nd half and won every header
8- Kos: Had Rashford in his pocket.
6- Monreal: struggled, but had no help from Ramsey

7- Coquelin: Won tackles and gave his all, he's become fundamental to our side.
-4 Elneny: Useless, don't know what he does but it's certainly not good enough

-5 Theo: Had no impact, moved inside to early, he needed to stay wide more often
-5 Ozil: Suffers when Cazorla isn't in the side, had no options to hit forward.
-1 Ramsey: Dreadful! Selfish, s hit on the ball, doesn't defend. Destroys the whole balance of the team. Should be sold in January, or put in the reserves, the worst footballer in the premier league!

-5 Sanchez: Had no impact

Monreal saved us so many times and with no cover 90 percent of the time.

Cech makes the game look easy which is what you want from a keeper, not diving all over the place.

The Coq and Elneny does not work, they are both to slow with the ball out of the back and thus we missed Santi so much in this run in.

.

I must have been watching a different game. Monreal was too slow on the turn and got us in trouble several times. He was also responsible for the goal we conceded when he lost his man. The same thing happened when he was up against Traore when we played Boro.

I agree with Mr Singh that Cech's performance was overrated. He made saves that any keeper would've made. That being said, he was in no way responsible for United's goal and I suspect GS only raised doubts about him to deflect attention away from Monreal.

Coquelin was our best player by a mile. Ozil was useless but I didn't expect much else at Old Trafford. Koscielny and Mustafi were alright but would've been found out on another day. Jenkinson did well but, again, there's a mistake in him. Sanchez was horrendous. How this bloke can't pass 10 yards across the pitch is astonishing. Theo and Ramsey were also fairly abysmal.

But his crossing is very good. Strange but true.

There was absolutely no need for Cech to be so far out of his goal. Herrera was never going to score from there, with Cech's lack of agilty he was never going to get across quick enough.

Poor goalkeeper from him again am afraid.

As for Monreal, Maldini in his prime would have struggled if he was left alone against Valencia and Mata, Ramsey gave him no help.

When a keeper sees an unmarked attacker nearing his goal he will come out to make the goal a smaller target and to create indecision in the forwards mind. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.

Campbell, Iwobi, Ramsey. YThe list of players who are blamed when Monreal has a bad game keeps growing,

Bottom line is we are not good enough too many players hide when the going gets tough.Too many average players big squad in numbers but small on quality.Walcott is has been and always will be bang average he will have one good day in ten.
