Player Ratings v Liverpool

Shocking a club of this size, with our resources, seems so poorly prepared for the start of the season. So many players either still not back or playing despite clearly not being fit, two kids at centre half, still no Giroud-alternative upfront. Downright negligent.

Cech - 5. Came off his line too quickly for Lallana's goal, but couldn't have done anything about any of the others to be honest.

Bellerin - 5. Up and down the right a lot too little effect. Not troubled much defensively. Made one excellent saving tackle on Firmino.

Holding - 5. Actually started well but gave away a soft free kick for their equaliser, positioning poor on their second goal and lost Coutinho on the third. Tough start to Premier League life.

Chambers - 5. Not too bad defensively but some awful passes. Good glancing header for his goal.

Monreal - 3. All eyes were on the young centre backs but it was our most experienced defender who let us down. Absolutely shocking.

Coquelin - 5. Up for the midfield battle but too sloppy and wasteful.

Elneny - 5. Ran around a lot and showed good feet at times in the first half, but offered absoutely nothing defensively.

Walcott - 4. Did well to bounce back from a very poor penalty with an excellent finish, but otherwise completely anonymous, and even worse in the second half. At times when we need a 27 year old senior player to step up, he still hides like a 17 year old.

Ramsey - 5. Started well but faded before going off injured. Clearly not fit after no pre-season.
Iwobi - 5. Started well, great assist for Theo's goal but also faded before going off injured.

Alexis - 4. Out of position, clearly not fit and just had long balls lumped up to him. Not the answer upfront.

Subs:

Oxlade-Chamberlain - 6. Excellent individual skill for his goal, and tried hard to get things started for us, but some sloppy moments as well (particularly one where he and Coquelin left the ball for each other). Should've started, hopefully this cameo can be the catalyst to kick start his football career.

Cazorla - 5. Great free kick for Chambers's goal, did little else.

Xhaka - 2. Literally just seemed to come on to foul people.
