I dont understand why people think we need a striker

People are still wasting their time talking about whether Arsenal are going to buy a 'top class striker'. By 'top class' they generally mean wildly unlikely signings like Aubayemang or Ibrahimovic that Wenger wouldn't make in a million years.

But I don't understand why people are so convinced we need a striker in the first place.

I am not particular fan of Giroud but if you think about it, he's probably in the top 10 strikers in Europe right now. He isn't a particularly good mover and he's a bit ponderous, he also has a tendency to miss good chances. But he also scores a lot of goals, scores very good headers, and has a decent left foot finish. After this European Championships you cannot deny that he is one of the main strikers in Europe. There aren't that many about. Germany are using Mario Gomes who is no better than Giroud, Italy are using Pelle. Really only a handful of elite strikers such as Neymar Levandowski Aguero or Dybala represent a better proposal than him, and Wenger isn't going to sign any of these in a million years so I don't really know why people waste their time talking about it. Plus we have Welbeck (possibly back in a year. Ed), I don't find him particularly spectacular either but he's a full England international so a decent back up striker by anyone's definition.

Personally, I don't even think Sanogo is that bad as a 3rd choice. And I'm not even joking here. Sanogo turned in a couple of very decent performances in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE and the CUP FINAL before he went on loan, I am one of the few people who thinks he could have the rough edges polished off him in the next few years. then theres the Japanese guy but I can't see him being successful particularly, rather ominously most of his goals are scored with his head against very small Japanese defenders, put him up against John Terry and he wont stand a f*cking chance. But hey ho.

One of the strikers I keep hearing about is MORATA. I didn't see anything from Morata in the European Championships to make me think he was a better proposal than Giroud. He's scored 15 goals in 60 appearances for Juventus, who generally dominate every game and make several chances. So why would Morata help our cause? People are just grabbing at names.

Arsenal don't even have a problem with goalscoring anyway. With the kind of attacking midfielders we have like Sanchez Ramsey etc we score in most games. I tend to look at away games against big teams and Champions league games against big teams to see if we carry enough goalscoring threat and we clearly do. 3 goals at Anfield, 2 goals at Old Trafford, 3 goals against Bayern Munich last season, a goal in the Nou Camp, 2 at White Hart Lane, 7 against the Champions Leicester. I don't really see why people are going about strikers at all.

Our problem is clearly at the other end of the pitch. In the games I mention above we also let in 3 goals at Anfield, 3 at OT in one of the most inept defensive performances I have seen for a long time, 2 at WHL in a spectacular collapse, 3 against Leicester, and shambolic defensive performances at Bayern to a lesser extent Barcelona.

Although obviously Wenger would never do it, the entire back line needs to be ripped up and we need to start again. I believe our entire problem involves our back line and goalkeeper. Cech is OK but to be honest Gunnersingh (regular contributor to the forum) may have a point about him getting beaten by not being able to get down low at his near post quick enough. Ospina for me is a non starter because he's too small. The full backs as I have said before and will continue to say it again and again are too small for English football. Its very easy for English teams to generate chances against us if they put crosses over because they aim to miss out our centre backs who apart from Mertesacker aren't even that imposing anyway, and then have their larger players jump with Bellerin and Monreal.

The back four need to be better scrappers and more dominant in the air, we dont even necessarily need their attacking input which is what they are in the team for (Bellerin particularly). The whole back 4 needs to be ripped up and start again, Bellerin should be converted into a midfielder, Monreal a squad player, and Mertesacker and that other idiot Paulista sold. All our defenders need to be 6 foot plus muck and bullets Wes Morgan type characters and until Wenger realises this, which he never obviously will, then it doesn't matter a fe(k who we have at the other end of the pitch. We'll never win anything, because however many goals we get away from home, we'll let in the same amount.
