Arsenal battered Liverpool at the start of the first half but failed to score, and looked like we may live to regret it as Liverpool grew into the game and started creating chances. Fortunately, a fine spell of 3 goals in 8 minutes gave us what we deserved at half time. The second half was pretty poor, but 4-1 is a fantastic win regardless. I don't think any of the players were particularly spectacular, but it was a good team performance. Matty makes Le Coq MotM, but BT Sports gave it to Sanchez. Matty's ratings follow:
Ospina - 6. Didn't exactly have loads to do but he was solid. Made a really good save off Emre Can in the second half. Maybe should've done better on the penalty.
Bellerin - 7. Quality going forward, scored a very good goal and played a part in Alexis's. Some naive defensive moments though, notably the penalty he conceded. Could've been sent off.
Mertesacker - 6. Many, including myself, questioned why he was started over Gabriel, but I thought he did well in the end.
Koscielny - 6. Mopped up for Per and played well before going off with a groin problem.
Monreal - 6. Sound defensively but didn't really offer anything going forward until the 89th minute.
Coquelin - 7. I would love to see his defensive statistics, because he was making tackles, blocks and interceptions galore. Did a good job. My man of the match.
Cazorla - 5. No impact on the game. Hit the post late on.
Ramsey - 7. Asked to play right wing and did a good job for an hour. Worked hard, tried to make things happen and got two assists.
Ozil - 7. Scored a good free kick and played a part in Bellerin's opener. Quality with the ball.
Alexis - 7. Worked tirelessly, gave the Liverpool defence no time at all and scored a really good goal.
Giroud - 7. Won most of his headers but otherwise quiet compared to his recent performances. Scored a very good goal late on though to maintain his run.
Subs:
Gabriel - 6. Sound.
Flamini - 5. Seemed to come on with the sole intention of hurting somebody.
Welbeck - 6. Lively, unlucky not to have scored.
