Fans at Screening Watch Tragedy and Then Farce

By Boris Mellor
December 6 2014

Arsenal fans watching the screening of the Stoke game at the Emirates were treated to a pantomine and then false hopes. I don't know if it happened on the streams and pirate channnels but at one stage we were watching a game that Arsenal was allegedly  losing 4-2. Yes that's right according to the screening Stokes's fourth goal, ruled offside, stood. As the TV company was too busy showing replays no one noticed it had not been given and the score 4-2 was displayed.

When it was finally announced that the real score was only 3-2 the crowd got very excited and roared the team on. Which no doubt was piped over to a mainly lethargic and incompetent Arsenal team at Stoke. To be realistic Arsenal had as much chance of equalising at 3-2 as if it was 42-2. Hughes is no fool, he know how to stop 3-0 becoming 3-3, true it slipped to 3-2, but enough was enough, on came the bruisers.

In reality the game was lost on 20 seconds when an easily conceded goal knocked the stuffing out of the team. Going in 3-0 down and then losing Chambers later in second half left Arsenal with far too much to do. It was a shambles, with a lack of leadership on and off the field.

Arsenal have now lost Chambers to a suspension, possibly Gibbs to an injury and clearly Wenger doesnt trust Bellerin. With a lack of adequate cover he may have to play the recovering Koscielny and risk his continuing recovery.

Wenger will send a scratch team to Turkey as he knows he can't overtake Dortmund. So the farce continues.

The Positives

Before watching the Invisibles we were able to watch Chelsea fail to remain invincible, losing 2-1 at Newcastle; the great team of 2004 keeps its singular trophy. The record remains purely Arsenal's. The greatest achievement in modern English football safely and soley belongs to Arsenal for another year, and that was all we had left to celebrate at the end.

i refused to acknowledge Chelsea as Invincible, u win a gold medal only when u win the final..... invincible is to be referred only after game 38, till then they were just unbeaten till tdy

Put it this way, even I am shaken in my faith for Wenger to turnaround this team.

No knee jerk reaction. I will wait for the outcome when we have a full-strength side in January/February with the expected reinforcement for Back-4 and MIDIFELD.

A Shamble of a Team and why Arteta is the Captain

Mertesacker is not a Captain material; certainly not a leader or exhibit any "leadership quality" whatsoever this season; hence our dismal run in the absence of Arteta and him as Captain.

None epitomizes best at Stoke City where all those goals simply meant lack of leadership and organisational ability.

Goal #1:

Gibbs failed to close down Walter and just stand back inviting a cross; which Walter did, thank you very much. A well-drilled side by Mark Hughes and their training ground intensive coaching reflected in the accuracy of their crosses to the bean-pole of a Peter Crouch.

Goal #1
Excuse moi, why was the shortest defender marking the tallest attacker in Peter Crouch?
What was Mertesacker doing marking space without any awareness of where Peter Crouch was and left it to a greenhorn Calum to mark him?
Calum missed the cross, Bellerin slipped and was caught between Crouch and Diouf. And mwertesacker standing in space and not closed enough to closed-out Crouch.

Why wasn't our tallest defender not man-markng Peter Crouch knowing that 99% of the crosses and lobs are aiming at his head?
What the f**k Wenger and Boulds were doing on the training pitch and tactical team talks?

If you want to sack the manager, the first one to go should be Wenger's lapdog who is contented to collect his salaries and contributed nothing to the solidity of the Defence. If this man got any pride, he should walk out of Wenger's coaching staff now and take responsibility for this shamble of the a defence now.

Goal #2
Again, Gibbs was out of position and ran back too late to stop Walter from crossing.
Watch that video again as Flamini was gesticulating frantically with his hand to Mertesacker to go back to the box and walk out for runners behind him.
An accurate cross with Bojan swiftly latched onto it to score ... with Mertesacker 10 yards out!

Why didn't he listened to Flamini shouting and gesticulating with his hands to run back to the box to cut out the cross and block off any runner from deep?

Goal #3
A corner where every team knew that Peter Crouch is the target.
Where the f**k id Mertesacker to challenge Peter Crouch?

You saw which 3 Arsenal players jumping up with Peter Crouch?
Calum, Gibbs and Bellerin!
And what the f**k Gibbs was doing jumping against Peter Crouch and left Walter free for a tap-in?

From those 3 goals, you can see the deficiencies of Arsenal defence seem season start:

1 - Gibbs gone missing in action at left flank and lack tactical awareness when defending. he can only see what is ahead of him and does not have the overall awareness as plays unfolded in front of him.

This is a fatal flaw in the way we are playing attacking football with FB operating as wing-back to strength the defence and expected to turnaround swiftly to breakup counter-attack as well.

Gibbs simply lack that Clichy Engine to do it nor Ashley Coble's positional sense and overall tactical awareness.

He is the major flaw in our Defence and should be replaced pretty quick. Monreal is better than him in overall awareness AND POSIITONAL SENSE; and why Wenger rated him as a n emergency CB ahead of Calum..

2 - Mertesacker. Slow as a funeral and his saving grace is his positional sense and organisational ability. But when both of these two attributes are gone, he is a big lumbering piece of deadmeat on the pitch ... and more so as big fat chicken that is scared to tangle with peter Crouch. Why the f**k he left Calum alone to man-mark Peter Crouch in the box? peter Crouch will eat Claum for breakfast and spit out the bones easily anytime of the day with a raw CB playing against him.

3 - Bojan

One Bojan created more shooting opportunities than the entire OX-Cazorla-Ramsey.
One Bojan can dismantle Arsenal MIDFIELD and DEFENCE; and all those overpaid and over-hyped ARSENAL MIDFIELD can't even create those clear cut shootng opportunities that Stoke did with 3 goals, one off-side goal and one-superbly saved off-side goal as well.

Point #3 reflected on the tippy-tappy football coaching of Wenger instead of the direct thrust by the likes of Roy Hodgson, Mark Hughes, Alan Pardew, Mourinho, Pellegrini and all those premiership managers.

The malaise of this season simply boiled down to 2 men:
Steve Boulds does not have the guts to walk out AND shown up in public what a dictator Arsene Wenger is at the club.

Arsene Wenger's tactics are out-of-date and more suitable for European Football rather than modern English Football which had been blended into steel-and-silk by decades of influence of foreign managers like Arsene Wenger and Mourinho.

The steel of the English grits, physicality and direct running of English Football.
The silky skills that English players had learned from their foreign counterpart and are now blending them into a "steel-and-silk" team.

Arsenal?
From 2005/06, we had degenerated into tipy-tappy crab football with 20+ sideway and backward passes looking to score the perfect goal with the final ball invariably hitting the body parts of the defender. E.g. just watch how passes and shots were blocked and hit the legs and bodies of defenders.

What this rebuilt 3rd team lacks is that "English Steel" of direct thrust and attack down the throat of opponent .. like what Newcastle did to Chelski and Stoke did to us.

Stoke City is a well-drilled side, incessantly practising on the training pitch their crosses, their set-pieces, their in-swinging corners and dead-balls; hence the accuracy of Walter's crosses.

Arsenal?
How come our corners do not seem to get pass the first man?
How come so many of our corners miss Mertesacker and Giroud?
