Smart Dresser, Smart Goal
It showed that Arsenal meant business, unlike the Northern softies who were wearing long sleeves. At no time did Boro roll up their sleeves, perhaps they didn't want to look aggressive. Arsenal were business like, but for the first 25 minutes Boro effectively flooded the midfield and restricted Arsenal's chances.
Get Smart
However on 26 minutes some fancy footwork by Arshavin, produced an easy chance for Fabregas to slot home. Arshavin had a great game, switching the ball about and tormenting defenders. At one stage in the second half he got a standing ovation for an air shot! However his row z shot got the "What the ruddy hell was that" song. Let's hope he appreciates Cockney humour.
Cesc trebles his tally
It all looked fairly safe, but whilst at one nil Arsenal could have suffered a serious blow from one of Boro's breakaways. I must say I felt a lot more confident with Almunia in goal, but I felt even more confident when Fabregas put away Eboue's slide rule assist on 67 minutes. I literally saw one or two Boro heads go down. Meanwhile with his two goals Cesc had trebled his season tally from one to three.
Wenger had seen enough, it was time to rest his captain, and on 68 minutes he sent on Diaby and Adebayor to replace Fabregas and Walcott. Arsenal had a few more chances, but were mainly happy to cruise. Boro had a few more attempts on goal but, as hard as they tried never looked like getting back into the match.
This was good preparation for Wednesday's big game, unfortunately Silvestre was injured, but Djourou after a shaky start soon fitted in. Eboue looks better and better at right back, Arshavin had a great game as did Fabregas. Nasri improved when Fab went off, perhaps he thrives on responsibility.
First time Wenger beat Southgate as its good as over for Villa
At last Wenger has broken his duck against Southgate as manager, before today it was four draws and one win for Boro. Now it is a win apiece. Arsenal established a new club record of eight clean sheets in the Premier League. It also means that Arsenal are almost certain of finishing 4th, if Villa draw one game out of their last four then they cannot overtake the Gunners. Alternatively the next three points the Arsenal win will finish of O'Neill's men's challenge.
One Regret
Sam Allardyce may be the beneficiary, his Bolton Mark II may stay up, meanwhile a team that plays football the right way could go down. All the best against Manchester Utd Gareth.
